Inverter and Solar Panel Battery Box Recommendation for a Trailer with 110 Power

Published 06/02/2015

Question:

I have a 1975 Scotty Hilander Trunkback. It has been converted to solely 110v with no battery or propane of any kind. I would like to design a 6v or 12v system with dual batteries and a power inverter to plug my camper into when not in a hookup site to run my 3 LED light fixtures, 2 fluorescent fixtures, and small refrigerator. I would like it to charge off the vehicle while in transit and have a solar component as well. I did notice the battery box with solar panel on your site. My vehicle is a 2013 Tacoma with tow package and 6 way hookup. The trailer side of the harness is only using slots for the tail/brake lights. I have no RV dealer/repair facilities within 2 hours of where I live and would like to be able to install this myself anyways... Can you help design this system for me and let me know what parts and wiring setup I need?

To charge the 12 volt batteries of your trailer while towing from your 2013 Toyota Tacoma you would want to run the 12 volt accessory circuit from your trailer wiring harness to the positive posts of your batteries. This will put a maintenance charge on the batteries while towing.

The battery box part # TLA7708RS that you referenced does have a solar panel on it as well for charging the batteries.
