Today, we're going to be reviewing part number TLA7730. This is the Torklift, hidden power, under vehicle battery mount, with the battery box. It's designed to fit Chevrolet and GM vehicles. To see if this fits your particular year and model, you can use the vehicle fit guide located right here on our website. This unit is going to allow you add another 12 volt automotive battery, that's going to be sold separately, but you can add that to your truck so that your camper or RV can have power longer and without straining your truck's system. All you have to do is clamp the customized mount to the underside of your vehicle and then hook up the battery. The battery is going to be sold separately but everything that you see here on our table is what you're going to get with this part number.
This unit is designed to be an extension of your RV's battery. When the RV is plugged into your truck, it's going to provide extra battery power in your camper or RV to significantly extend the time you can run on a 12 volt system. This unit is going to work for lead acid, agm sealed, and gel cell batteries, as well as a few more. It's going to come with disconnects, these are going to be your quick disconnects. These are your power connectors to ease installation and removal of the battery. This unit is an easy no drill installation, no drilling into the frame of your truck, it simply clamps to the truck frame beneath your vehicle.
It's going to include all the necessary hardware. As you can see, I have a lot of it already pieced together just to show you how everything would be situated. Again, all the hardware is included. It's made from a nice, heavy duty, durable steel construction. It's going to have a protective finish on it so it's designed to resist rust and corrosion.
One of the neat things I want to point out is that this is totally customized to fit your vehicle. It's not a universal fit, so it's not going to fit everything out there. It is customized for Chevrolet and GM trucks and again, to see if it fits your particular model and year, use the fit guide locator right here on our website. Torklift makes this in the U.S.A., they're going to cover it with a limited, excuse me, lifetime warranty. The battery box itself, we're going to take a few moments and focus on that. This is going to be made from a high density, black, polyethylene construction, very strong and durable.
It's going to have the handles on the side. That way you can easily transport it, if needed. It's going to include a tie-down strap, hold-down brackets, as well as the necessary hardware to get those brackets installed. Another neat feature is you can see how I have all the bunched stuff over here, this is going to be just a standard bolt, flat washer, small flat washer, lock washer, and nut. You're going to get 4 of those sets and then you have the 4 holes right here on the bracket. You can see on the bottom of the box, we do not have any pre-drilled holes. Very easy though. Place the box onto the platform, this is going to mount under your vehicle, mark out where those holes are, drill the holes in the bottom of the box and then install the 4 sets of hardware to get the durable battery box mounted to the platform. It's going to include the tie-downs, the screws, the mounting brackets. It's going to feature a snap top lid. It's got the 2 little fasteners here on the side, just push it in and the lid is going to come right off. Taking a look on the inside, it's going to feature an adjustable divider. You can see the track system that it has along here. This is designed to fit a variety of battery sizes. This is going to fit battery sizes up to 14 and 1/2 inches long by 7 and 7/8 of an inch wide, by 9 and 3/4 of an inch tall. Plenty of room in here and the divider is designed to be adjusted to the edge of your battery to make sure that your battery doesn't shift around inside the box. It's going to fit group 24 to 31 batteries. Again, you're going to have the snap top lid. It's vented for safety. It's got these areas here so you can run the cables in and out without having to remove the lid every time. That's going to do it for today's review of part number TLA7730. Just clamp this mount to the underside of your vehicle and hook up the battery (not included).Well made, heavy duty … but did not fit my application E350 van. After going over the issues with customer service I had to return and reorder another style. Mind you if I had the room a pick has I would have been very pleased. Make sure the battery you intend to use fits the provided size in the kit.
I modified the battery mount to fit my 7 X 14 covered cargo trailer. Added a couple of other pieces to it. Works great.
The bracket is solid, but the mounting/securing of the plastic box to the bracket leaves a bit to be desired. It does protect the battery well from the elements, but it does not secure the battery down well. If you wanted to spend more money, you could get a battery box from the Offroad manufacturers that fits within the plastic box and bolt it down, which would be more secure. I’m going to be modifying the bracket and box so that I can attach a ratchet strap in place of the provided strap to make it secure as possible without breaking the bank. Eventually I might take some all thread and clamp down a bar across the top of the battery, similar to some older OEM battery securing mechanisms.
Installed this about a year ago and have not had any issues with it. It works as advertised! Its not "easy" to install or remove with my current set up and heavy AGM battery. I likely have to many heavy lines going into the box and then connected a fuse box/distribution box on the outside of the box. I have been off road and have not damaged it at all! Great product to keep the "house Battery" out of the bed of my truck and attached low and out of the way! Trying to figure out if I can mount a second one!!
This was a direct bolt on, no drilling required, on my 1996 Ford E350 Motorhome chassis. I was able to double the battery capacity of the coach. Expensive part but well made. I used a floor jack to lift and hold the battery box up while making the final connections.
Used this to attach a battery to the railing of a utility trailer. Not exactly what it was intended for, but worked great. Very satisfied. Very thick sturdy metal, and very good battery box. Expensive, but you won't be disappointed in the quality.
Great quality. I used this product to supply power to my winch. Required some modifications to fit my application (1.5x4 C-Beam trailer) since it was made to fit underneath a vehicle, not bolt to an open trailer. Very happy with the quality and I am confident this unit will last a long time.
Great option for the extra battery. I should be able to transfer it to another full framed vehicle or trailer when I’m done with this truck. Can’t see any room for improvement.
