Features to know about

Built to Tow Serious Weight: 25,000 lbs GTW and 6,250 lbs Vertical Load Limit

This hitch is made for heavy-duty fifth-wheel towing with a 25,000-lb gross towing weight rating and a 6,250-lb vertical load limit. The sturdy steel construction and durable carbide powder coat finish give it the backbone and protection needed for long hauls with large trailers. It’s a solid setup that feels steady mile after mile.

Quiet, Secure Connection Every Time: Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw Design

The interlocking 2-jaw system wraps completely around the king pin for 360-degree contact, cutting down on rattle and movement that you’d get from slide-bar models. The result is a quieter ride with less chucking and more confidence in your connection. It’s the kind of solid hookup that helps keep everything stable and predictable when you’re on the road.

Close-up view of Curt A25 fifth-wheel hitch showing the interlocking two-piece jaws that wrap around the king pin for a secure trailer connection.

Detailed angled view of Curt A25 fifth-wheel hitch showing closed interlocking jaws for tight, stable king pin engagement.

See Your Hitch Status at a Glance: 3-Point Color Indicator System

No guessing or climbing into the bed to check your jaws—just look at the color indicator. Red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means you’re locked for towing. The indicators are visible from the cab, so you always know your hitch’s status before pulling away.

Simplify Hookup and Unhooking: Self-Aligning Torsion Head and Lockable Handle

The fully articulating torsion head self-aligns as you back in, making coupling smoother and faster. It helps control movement for a quieter, more stable ride while reducing road shock. The single-throw, lockable handle lets you secure the trailer to the hitch with a padlock (sold separately) and automatically resets to the ready-to-couple position after uncoupling.

Make Removal Easier When You’re Done Towing: Fast 1-Pin Head Removal

When it’s time to clear the bed, pull one pin and remove the head—simple as that. This design makes it easy for one person to lift off without extra tools or equipment. The included plastic lube plate also helps the king pin glide smoothly into place during hookup, keeping things clean and low-maintenance for next time.

Video Transcript for What to Know About the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails. Now, these base rails will install in your truck bed. And they provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel hitch installation. Now, when these rails are used with the CURT's Custom Mounting Brackets, which we sell separate on a website, these rails will cut in half the time it takes to install your fifth wheel trailer hitch.

We mentioned the finish on this. I'm gonna zoom in and sort of show it. It's a carbide black finish, sort of like a matte black finish, so it matches the finish if you use it on the CURT Q5 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch. Now, these rails are universal, so they will work with the following fifth wheel hitches. They work with the CURT brand, the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch, the Reese, and even the Husky.

This part here will include the two base rails. Now, we mentioned the mounting brackets, the custom mounting brackets, the hardware, and an installation kit is all sold separately. The length on these rails, if we put a tape measure on them from one end to the other, right at 43 inches long. But that should do it for the review on the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails.

Easy install with directions

Ordering from etrailer was a great decision! I got a confirmation email for my order within minutes and an email it had shipped in just a few hours. I was given an expected delivery date and it actually showed up a day early. I’m super impressed with the customer service! I bought a fifth wheel hitch and found an [online] video for my truck and hitch that was extremely helpful, especially since all the RV dealers in the area were two months out to install it. All in all dealing with etrailer has been a great experience and I will definitely be going back for any of my other RV needs!

Easy to order from etrailer with fast shipping. Ordered on Mon estimated delivery on Fri but came in only 2 days for a deliver Wed. Curt A25 hitch packaged very well good instruction easy assembly on tailgate filling installed and torqued in less that 30 mins.

Ive been using this fifth wheel set up for about 5 months now and I don't have any complaints. I pull a 2022 Heartland Cyclone 4006 toyhauler fifth wheel. Loaded down its usually weighing between 18 to 20,000 lbs depending on what we are hauling.
by:
It is well built. Directions could have better illustrations. Putting handle together was the most difficult part of process. It dropped right into my existing rails. Have not hooked my fifth wheel yet, but very satisfied with the finished product.
by:
I have pulled a 16,000 lbs 5th wheel over 13,000 miles with this hitch and no issues. It arrived with the package damaged and the handle bent. Etrailer quickly replaced the part. The base will rust if not covered. If you remain hooked up for an over night stay, you will need to lower your jacks to stabilize and prevent rocking do to the hitch’s design. Great product.

Took me a month, but I finally got the Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch in my truck and took it for nearly 150 mile trip to see how it would work. My wife and I both were amazed at how quiet and the bouncing, snapping, popping and cussing were all gone. This hitch is absolutely amazing. Before, when I just pulled out of my driveway, the old fifth wheel would snap and pop loudly several times. It was so quiet with the Curt A25 (new one), both of us looked at each other and looked back to see if the trailer was moving with us. (It was) Thank you to Curt for building it so well and to all of the people at etrailer that recommended it and ensuring it was all right.

My 5th wheel package was robbed during shipping.
When I received it, the box had obviously been opened and then taped shut.
When I opened it, the base of the 5th wheel hitch was gone!
I called etrailer's customer support and they were amazing.
I sent pictures of the package I took before and after I opened the package.
The customer support rep said that was all I needed to do.
And they shipped a new base two days later.
I just received the base of the hitch.
I am extremely happy that etrailer's customer support was so responsive when I had a serious problem!
Thank you etrailer customer support!

The only thing I wish I got was a sliding hitch as it would have been a bit easier to hitch as a perfectly straight hitch I have only a inch to spare before my tailgate hits the bulkhead. So being that I have to close the tailgate before I am totally hitched into the kingpin

Had a Pullrite Superglide in my old F350 standard bed but when I upgraded to the 8ft bed of the dually, I went with this hitch. Hitch came in 2 boxes and although the boxes worked banged up a bit, everything was there and fine. It only took about 30 minutes to bolt everything together and install on the rails that were already in the truck. I actually had to take the hitch apart once to adjust the hitch up a little. I wanted it as high as possible in the bed, while still clearing the Roll N Lock retractable bed cover. Looks good, seems solid and well made. Hitch head comes off to make it easier to remove this hitch, but even with the head connected, I am able to move the hitch in the truck (would need to take head off for me to lift the hitch out of the truck). Also installed a BedRug at the same time to clean up the bed.

Curt A25 fifth wheel hitch... received in record time ,box was damaged and the pull arm was bent. Called Etrailer and they sent me another pull arm immediately. Great customer service, will continue to do business here. Thanks Molly and George

Purchased the Curt 25 A. 25,000 lb capacity with articulating head. I pull an 18,000 lb 5th wheel camper with a 3500 diesel dually. There is lots of movement when braking and start of pull after a full and normal stop. I would not buy the articulating model again. The product seems to be well built just too much front to rear movement in the head.
by:
I could not be happier. It's solid, no sway while towing and no banging when I hit the brakes. Great product and I would highly recommend it!
by:
I am very pleased with my purchase from etrailer. The 25,000 pound hitch and hardware was shipped promptly and received from UPS in good condition.
Thanks, etrailer!

The hitch arrived as promised and in perfect condition. Couldn’t ask for better customer service. Looking forward to towing with the Curt A25.
I’ll amend this review after I tire with it. Super happy with etrailer!!

2017 Chevrolet Silverado 3500
Great Hitch. I haven't used it to pull yet but it's heavier and seems more sturdy than the Reese I replaced. I also like the interlocking jaws. Many time hitching with the reese I'd have to use a flashlight to see that the jaws were closed but not any more. I'll update once I pull the camper with it.

I needed a fifth wheel hitch fast. Web site was easy shipping was exceptional and I installed myself. If you need anything call and ask for Michelle. It is truly that easy.

I was happy with the transaction with etrailer. The website was very helpful in finding what I needed. The product was received ahead of the committed date. The only problem was with the packaging. Some of the boxes were pretty beat-up and the parts were scratched with the finish damaged. That was a little disappointing.

etrailer sells high quality Curt products. I order Curt products from etrailer and all reasonably price, process works great, online order through physical final delivery,

Great hitch, easy to use and a smoother than the old reese

2016 Chevrolet Silverado 3500
Arrived in great shape, easy to install. Can't wait to give it a try. Looks well built and easy to use. The release handle is just in a different position than my old 20K Reese so will be a little more of a reach to get to the lock pin.
by:
like it very quiet and smooth
by:
Best hitch I have ever purchased even got my friend to switch
by:
The hitch has worked well for us . I wish it would go up 2 inches higher as it is close to the box have not had any problems though
by:

  • Will Demco Custom Base Rail Brackets Fit 2002 Ford F-150
Hey Dennis! The # DM8552006 are only designed for the 1999-2004 F-250 and F-350. Are you looking for base rails with custom brackets for your F-150? If that is the case, I recommend the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Ford F150 # C16437-204. This includes the base rails along with the custom bracket kit.

Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16116 comes with a universal installation kit and that kit does fit your 2002 Ford F-150. If you would rather go with a custom installation kit you can use # C16437-204 with hitch # C16115. Custom installation kits are easier to install and require less drilling for installation.

Hey Dan, so for your 1998 Ford F-150 you can use the install kit # C16437-204 on both the 6' and 8' beds. For a hitch though, you are going to need to use a sliding hitch like the Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ R24 Slider # C16566, but if you have a long bed you can use a fixed hitch like # C16180.

The part you've asked about, # C16204 is the bed mounted fifth wheel base rails only. It does not include the frame mounting brackets or the installation hardware. For the complete kit that's compatible with your truck, you'd want # C16437-204.. The install rails are compatible with fifth wheel hitches that use industry standard rails, which includes Valley, Husky, Reese and Curt, among others. If your truck currently has a Gooseneck hitch with a 2-5/16 inch ball that sits in the truck...

You were on the right track with the Reese Universal Base Rails # RP30035 ! This kit will mount to the frame of your truck and works on both the 6-1/2 foot and 8 foot beds on the F-150. This kit will provide you with a set of bed rails to install any 5th wheel hitch that mounts into the industry standard 5th wheel rails- the only drawback is that there is some drilling required for this kit. For that reason you may instead want to go with the Curt Custom Installation kit # C16437-204 which...

  • Can I Tow a 5th Wheel Trailer with a 2002 Ford F-150 with a 5-1/2 Foot Bed
I'll start by saying that we do not recommend that you install a fifth wheel hitch on a 2002 Ford F-150 with the 5-1/2 foot bed. You would have to use a Sidewinder pin box with a standard hitch, which moves the pivot point back 22 inches toward the tailgate; and even with the Sidewinder installed on your vehicle you will not get enough clearance between the truck cab and your fifth wheel when making a 90 degree turn. We recommend at least 4 inches of clearance and with the Sidewinder it...

It looks like your Valley 5th wheel hitch installs in industry standard above the bed rails. For your 1997 Ford F-150 short bed you can use Curt custom installation kit # C16437-204. Using this kit means that you will not have to drill into the truck frame for installation. And the rails will accept a Valley hitch that fits in above the bed rails. You can also use the universal kit # RP30035 but drilling into the truck frame is required. It will not fit if you have a SuperCrew model.

For your 2000 Ford F-150 you can use the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches # RP50042-58 or the Curt # C16437-204 for your industry standard 5th wheel base rails. These will not require drilling into your truck frame for installation because the brackets will utilize holes already in the factory frame. Henry, it sounds like you're looking for something like the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # C16180 with the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit for Chevy/GMC # C16418-204. • How to Select Hitch Height Setting for Curt A25 Fifth Wheel Hitch
Hey Mark, it really comes down to what's going to allow your trailer to sit level with at least 4-6 inches of bed rail to trailer overhang clearance. Since the A20 and the A25 are very similar I would assume you'd want to use the same set of mounting holes on the A25 as the old hitch as long as the trailer was being towed level. But you should verify after that point if your trailer is able to be towed level.

  • Comparing Goose Box to 5th Wheel Pin Box and Hitch Regarding Articulation and Capacity
The Reese Goose Box # RP94720 has an integrated air back and shock system that will help on rough terrain. It works very much the same as some pin boxes like the Trailair Flex Air- 21,000 lbs # RP85FR. The issue you will find is that your trailer weight given is greater than the pin boxes we carry. The Goose Box is only rated for 20K and our pin boxes max at 21K. For the capacity you are seeking, I recommend the Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch- 25,000 lbs # C16180 which has a fully...

  • Can You Add 5th Wheel Pucks To a 2022 Chevy Silverado 3500
I do have an option for you but if they were not installed from the factory, there is no way to add pucks to a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500. Therefore, if you want to install a fifth wheel hitch you will need to install a set of above bed base rails like the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit part # C16429-204. I have attached an install video I did on this kit if you'd like to give it a watch. These rails will work with pretty much any hitch so long as said hitch is designed to...

I can absolutely make a 5th wheel hitch recommendation for your potential 2020 Ford F-250, whether you get it with the factory puck system in the bed or not. This will drop right down into those pucks and it features an interlocking 2-jaw system that will completely wrap around the trailer's king pin. What this does is not only provide an extremely secure connection with the...

  • Is The Curt Q25 Fifth Wheel Hitch Compatible With Rota Flex Pin Boxes
The whole Curt Q-Series line like the Curt Q25 # C16265 you referenced is not compatible with the Rota Flex pin box line like the # LC328330, nor are they compatible with rotating pin boxes. The pivoting system of the pin box works against the pivoting system of the hitch head and can cause the components of the head to deteriorate, ultimately leading to the hitch head failing. The only option is to either replace the pin box with one of the same bolt pattern or to replace the hitch....
