This hitch is made for heavy-duty towing, rated at 25,000 lbs gross towing weight and 6,250 lbs vertical load limit. The solid steel build and carbide powder coat finish give it the strength and durability to handle big fifth-wheel trailers trip after trip. Once mounted, it feels steady and locked in—just the kind of confidence you want when pulling serious weight down the highway.
The fully articulating torsion head helps smooth out road shock and quiets towing noise. It pivots naturally with the trailer to keep things stable and reduce jarring movements, which means less rattle on rough stretches and a more relaxed ride. The cushioned double pivot design helps keep the connection steady even when surfaces aren’t perfect.
The interlocking two-piece jaw wraps completely around the king pin for 360-degree contact. That solid grip means less movement between truck and trailer compared to slide-bar models, giving you a tighter, more secure feel. Every time you latch it, you know it’s locked in—no rattle, no guesswork—just a strong connection ready to roll.
Curt’s color-coded indicator shows red for uncoupled, yellow for ready to couple, and green when you’re locked for towing. You can see it right from the cab or beside the bed without climbing in or second-guessing your setup. The handle locks with a padlock (sold separately) and resets itself after uncoupling so you’re always ready for the next hookup.
When it’s time to clear out your bed, this hitch breaks down quickly. The fast 1-pin head removal lets one person take off the head without tools, making it easier to handle and store when not in use. Add in height adjustment from 13" to 17" and built-in zerk fittings for easy lubrication, and it’s a hitch built for convenience as much as strength.
This fifth-wheel hitch is compatible with rotating pin boxes, such as the Reese Sidewinder, Reese Revolution, and 5th Airborne Sidewinder, only when used with a wedge (sold separately).

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails. Now, these base rails will install in your truck bed. And they provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel hitch installation. Now, when these rails are used with the CURT's Custom Mounting Brackets, which we sell separate on a website, these rails will cut in half the time it takes to install your fifth wheel trailer hitch.
We mentioned the finish on this. I'm gonna zoom in and sort of show it. It's a carbide black finish, sort of like a matte black finish, so it matches the finish if you use it on the CURT Q5 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch. Now, these rails are universal, so they will work with the following fifth wheel hitches. They work with the CURT brand, the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch, the Reese, and even the Husky.
This part here will include the two base rails. Now, we mentioned the mounting brackets, the custom mounting brackets, the hardware, and an installation kit is all sold separately. The length on these rails, if we put a tape measure on them from one end to the other, right at 43 inches long. But that should do it for the review on the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails.

Still no rust on the rails or the bolts. My opinions havent changed, I would definitely buy again.

Still using and I really like the hitch and other items I purchased a year ago. After installing the Curt fifthwheel hitch, Ive used it several times and I will be using it a bunch over rbe next several weeks. Easy to maintain and use.

If the handle is not releasing the kingpin is binding with the jaws. The hitch needs weight on it to couple and uncouple so it makes sense that you have to move the truck back a bit to release the jaws.

Rails have been in place for a year and used many times. Absolutely no issues and the bolts have all remained tight, thanks to the proper torque.
