Reese Double Jaw

Secure, 2-Piece Jaw

Unlike the more economical slide-bar models, the rounded, 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Round-Tube Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Video Transcript for Reese Fifth Wheel Installation Kit - Universal - RP30035 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number RP30035. This is the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches. It is going to be a 10 bolt design. The base rails are going to provide necessary attachment points for your 5th wheel trailer hitch. The universal brackets are designed so that they fit most applications, and then the adapter brackets can be used to ease installation on certain vehicles. The kit's going to include both rails, four brackets, two larger ones with more mounting options, and then the two smaller ones, and it's going to include all the hardware that you need, all the instructions, and the fish wire that you just thread onto the end of the bolt, and you can bring it through the appropriate hole as needed. It makes it a little bit easier to get the bolts in the right place. Some compatible hitches are going to be Curt, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Reese, Valley and Husky.

This does work with RBW Li'l Rocker Hitch Fifth Wheel Hitch. It will not fit the Reese Elite Series Signature Series or Valley UBS hitches. It's made from a nice solid steel construction with a nice black powder coated finish on it, so it is going to stand up well against rust and corrosion. That's going to do it for today's review of part number RP30035. This is the Reese Universal Base Rails and Installation Kit for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches. .

  • Recommendation for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for Use with Sidewinder on 2010 Dodge Ram
Sidewinders, like # RP61412, are designed to be used with stationary hitches but can be used with a slider hitch as long as the slider remains locked in the towing position while towing or connected to a trailer. I have included a link to our FAQ article on Sidewinders for reference. To determine the best 5th wheel trailer hitch and installation kit for your truck, I will need to know a little more about it. Is your Big Horn a 1500, 2500, or 3500. Does it have overload springs. Is it a...

We do have a semi-custom base rail installation kit for your 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 long bed, however, the Reese Semi-Custom Base Rail and Install Kit, # RP30035-023, that you referenced will not fit in your truck. This kit was designed for newer model Ram 1500 trucks. Instead, you will want to install the Reese Semi-Custom Base Rail and Install Kit, # RP30035-023, if your truck has overload springs, or # RP30035-186 if your truck does not have the overload springs. Hey Robert, The bracket kit # RP58386 you were looking at is a confirmed fit for your Ram but it's just the frame mounting brackets without any hardware included. If you're needing the hardware separately you can use part # 58164. You can get these brackets, the rails, and hardware kit all together with part # RP30035-386 to make everything easier. Your vehicle's frame will likely be open but I won't lie to you there's going to be numerous other components that will be in your way while...

  • Recommended Fifth Wheel And Gooseneck Hitches For 2012 Ram 1500 With Short Bed
If your 2012 Ram 1500 did not come with the factory tow package included, you will have to do some drilling in the frame when installing a fifth wheel hitch or a gooseneck hitch. Unless it is either stated in the manual or if a dealership would recommend against towing a fifth wheel trailer, I am not aware of there being an issue with fifth wheel towing. If you decide you would like a fifth wheel, you are right that a Sidewinder will be needed with your truck with the short bed. We would...

The Reese semi-custom installation kit # RP30035-386 is a fit for the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5-1/2 foot bed. • 5th Wheel Trailer hitch for 2014 Dodge Ram with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
On beds shorter than 6 feet you will need a fixed hitch and a Sidewinder on the trailer to be able to make tight turns. One thing that I noticed was that you have Pro Series hitch # PS30132 which is...

  • Location of 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2055 Dodge Ram 2500 with 6-1/2 Bed
The head unit of your 5th wheel hitch should sit above or slightly in front of the rear axle on your 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 with the 6-1/2' bed. The exact location though will be determined by where your base rails sit. We have a few different options of base rails with the difference being the difficulty of installation. With all of the kits the distance from the back of your cab to where the king pin sits will be about 36" which you can use to get an idea for where your hitch will sit. If...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation for 2002 Chevy Silverado 2500HD
We have fifth wheel hitches and rail kits that are confirmed as a fit for your 2002 Chevy Silverado that would work well for towing your trailer. If you have a long bed you'd need a fixed hitch like the part # RP30047 or if you have a short bed truck you'd need a slider hitch like the # RP30075 and you'd be set. For a rail kit you'd then want a custom install kit like the # RP50064-58 which is a confirmed fit for your truck and will minimize drilling and install time when compared to...

  • Difference Between Square and Round Tube Fifth Wheel Slider Bases
Round tube sliders are preferred as they operate smoother and easier. The square tube sliders will get the job done but the round ones will just work a bit easier. The Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Round Tube Slider # RP30075 will a great option that would work well to replace what you have. It will give you more turning clearance around corners to prevent cab interference.

  • What is Correct Placement Of Goose Neck Hitch Ball in Full Size Pickup
A goose neck hitch ball, or the center of a 5th wheel hitch head for that matter, will be located either right over the rear axle or an inch or so forward of it. You do not want a goose neck hitch ball to be located behind the rear axle since this would cause the trailer's tongue weight to push down on the rear end causing lots of sag and at the same time lift the front end of the truck. The elevated front end would cause your lights to be aimed too high and would also negatively affect...

  • Converting Fixed Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch to Slider for Cab Clearance with 5-1/2 Foot Bed
It sounds like you have the Reese 16K 5th Wheel Hitch model # RP30047. If this is the case then you can simply replace the fixed legs with the Reese Square Tube Slider # RP30048 in order to convert it to a sliding model. Please keep in mind though that while a sliding hitch will certainly provide you with more cab clearance compared to a fixed unit, typically with a 5-1/2 foot bed a pivoting pin box on the trailer is needed to allow for 90 degree turns. The Reese slider will offer 10...

  • Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation to Replace an Older Reese Hitch in a GMC Sierra
Your old Reese hitch is designed to fit the same industry standard rail dimensions that the current fifth wheel hitches like the part # RP30047 would fit. The # RP30047 would be a great option for you if you had a long bed truck. It has a slightly higher towing capacity than your previous hitch and features a 2 piece jaw that provides great king pin contact. It will install easily in your current rails. I attached a review video for this hitch for you to check out as well. Since you have...

  • Can One Fifth Wheel Hitch Be Used in Ford and GMC Trucks with Factory Rail Kits
If you used the appropriate rail kit adapter in each truck you'd be able to use the same fifth wheel hitch. For the Ford truck you'd need the part # RP30156 and for the GMC 3500 you'd need the Demco adapter part # DM6194 for if you have a short bed truck or part # DM6206 for if you have a long bed. If the trucks have short beds you'd need a slider like the Reese part #RP30075 or if you have a long bed truck you'd want the # RP30047.

  • Replacement Slider Hitch Recommendation to Replace Reese 30026 Classic 14k Hitch
I spoke to my contact at Reese and he informed me that the hitch you have is pretty old Reese 14k Classic fifth wheel hitch. It's old enough that they do not know for certain if you could convert it to a slider hitch. He recommended that you just go with a new slider hitch like the part # RP30075. This hitch will install on the rails you have installed in the bed of your truck and will slide back when you activate it so that you can make tight turns. When the hitch is slid forward in...
