Features to know about

Built for Heavy Loads and Long Trips: 25,000 lbs GTW and 6,250 lbs Vertical Load Limit

The Curt A25 is rated for a gross towing weight of 25,000 lbs and a vertical load limit of 6,250 lbs. That kind of strength gives you the confidence to pull large 5th-wheel trailers and toy haulers mile after mile. It’s built from sturdy steel with a durable carbide powder coat finish that holds up against weather and road grime, season after season. This hitch delivers the solid feel you want when towing heavy over long distances.

Quiet, Secure Connection Every Time: Interlocking Dual Jaws with 360-Degree Contact

This hitch uses an interlocking 2-jaw system that wraps fully around the king pin for 360-degree contact. That tight, even grip cuts down on rattle and movement you’d get with a slide-bar design, giving you a quieter and more stable ride. The jaws lock firmly for consistent coupling, so every time you hook up you get the same solid feel—no guessing, no clunking, just a smooth connection that inspires confidence.

Know You’re Ready to Tow: Three-Point Color-Coded Indicator System

Curt’s color-coded indicator takes the guesswork out of coupling. Red means uncoupled, yellow means ready to couple, and green means locked in for towing. The indicators are easy to see from the cab or beside the bed, so you can confirm your setup with one quick glance. And when you unhook, the handle resets itself to the ready-to-couple position automatically—one less step before your next trip.

Smooth Turning in Tight Spots: Non-Binding S25 Slider with 12" Travel

When maneuvering at slow speeds or backing into tight sites, the included S25 slider gives you 12" of front-to-back travel for extra clearance between truck and trailer. It slides easily without binding and automatically latches in both directions so you can focus on steering instead of fiddling with release handles. That extra pivot room makes short turns smoother and safer when space gets tight.

Easy to Remove When You Need the Bed: Fast One-Pin Head Removal

Clearing your bed doesn’t have to be a chore. The A25’s head lifts off quickly with a single pin, making it easy for one person to handle without extra tools or lifting gear. Built-in zerk fittings keep maintenance simple, and the included plastic lube plate helps the king pin glide smoothly into place during hookup. It’s a user-friendly design from install through every trip that follows.

Video Transcript for What to Know About the Curt Universal Fifth Wheel Base Rails

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails. Now, these base rails will install in your truck bed. And they provide the necessary attachment points for your fifth wheel hitch installation. Now, when these rails are used with the CURT's Custom Mounting Brackets, which we sell separate on a website, these rails will cut in half the time it takes to install your fifth wheel trailer hitch.

We mentioned the finish on this. I'm gonna zoom in and sort of show it. It's a carbide black finish, sort of like a matte black finish, so it matches the finish if you use it on the CURT Q5 20K Fifth Wheel Hitch. Now, these rails are universal, so they will work with the following fifth wheel hitches. They work with the CURT brand, the Draw-Tite, the Hidden Hitch, the Reese, and even the Husky.

This part here will include the two base rails. Now, we mentioned the mounting brackets, the custom mounting brackets, the hardware, and an installation kit is all sold separately. The length on these rails, if we put a tape measure on them from one end to the other, right at 43 inches long. But that should do it for the review on the CURT Universal Carbide Black Finish Fifth Wheel Base Rails.

The quality of the kit is very good. Materials are heavy and well packaged. The paper instructions are a little vague about where to put the U-shaped washers. On youtube, Curt has a installation video for a 2015 F350, but make sure to watch the whole video. At the beginning Curt suggests putting the U-shaped washers between the mounting rails and on top the truck bed-then cuts to a different clip suggesting an alternative location, which is between the sheet metal on the underside of the truck bed. The U-shaped washers should be installed on the underside of the truck bed where they function as spacers between the sheet metal and will prevent crushing the corrugations of the bed. I installed my kit without removing the rear tires or dropping the spare tire.

I put this on my 2015 F-250 mostly by myself yesterday...BTW, ordered on a Monday late evening and had product on my property Friday noon with regular free shipping!
Definitely used the video to help with installation. It really helps to have a jack that gets the vehicle high enough to work on to give you some room under the truck...(Don't forget safety jacks too!). Impact wrench is a huge help--saves time, so if you can have one for this job it is a pleasure! I used my Milwaukee 1/2" M18 impact wrench a lot. Need to take wheels off, drop spare also. The whole job, including Curt A16 5th Wheel and harness took about 4 hours for me, with some help placing bolts so I wouldn't have to go under and over to the bed a bunch of times. Two people is better, but can do by yourself.
Quality seems to be good and fitment is very nice. Great job all around etrailer.com!!

The custom fit rail and bracket assembly for me was a no brainer. I am good at putting things together and by trade a maintenance tech. I was able to put it in the truck in the 4 hour time frame but not as instructed. The brackets fit great. The rail placement was easy to understand but the hole came out on the edge of the small humps in the bed. This means careful drilling to keep it straight. It is not possible to use a step drill as stated because of the truck rail under the bed. If you did use one the hole on the bed would be larger than needed. If the rail was about 1 1/2 longer it would come out in the center of the humps and make for a very easy placement. This is the manufacturers problem. It still came out great and I am happy with my purchase. I hope to pick up my camper next week.

This is the 2nd time I have installed a Curt Custom 5th wheel installation kit. This time it was for a 2014 Ford F250 short bed. As usual the customer service and delivery was outstanding. I watched the video and read the instructions and installation was very uneventful. No missing or spare parts ! Took about 3 1/2 hours and I was working alone. The custom brackets are the only way to go! Installed my sliding hitch and took the 5th wheel on a test drive. I have been an etrailer customer for years and have always received exceptional service and fast delivery !

by: Mike 03/07/2021

The only thing I found with this kit is that the brackets do not completely isolate the hitch plates from the body, the brackets and shims actually squeeze the body floor to the frame brackets. The body then cannot move or flex as it should!
All the brackets, shims, nuts bolts and washers are good quality

Great product, easy to install.

by: mike09/04/2016

haven't towed yet, be several weeks before we get trailer ! watch video and read instructions several times, get some body to help and go for it. installed on 2011 ford crew cab, 4x4, gas engine, short bed. Did not take wheels off or drop spare tire. took us 4 hours, that included fifth wheel assemble. getting torque wrench in there was a little tricky, but do able. only holes we drilled was on truck bed, side plates fit up perfect. real heavy duty. all hardware was there, box showed up in great shape. every think fit up great, very pleased

by: Dan02/13/2019

This was a perfect fit. Made installation so easy rather than generic installation kit. The holes matched perfectly for my 2015 F350 6 1/4 ft. Bed. Easy to follow instructions. Took about 3 hours to install everything. I also purchased the Curt slider hitch.

Once I got the rails installed in my 2016 FORD F305( with plenty of ease) almost immediately I went pick up a fifth wheel travel trailer (approximately 14,500#) stopped once to check the hardware, HAD ABSOLUTELY NO ISSUES WITH ANY OF THE HITCH. Thank you for such a good and dependable product, and yes I have even recommended it to others.

The kit was a exact fit for my 2011 f-250 truck. I will be purchasing other items from etrailer . Shipping was fast and delivered ahead of time.

by: Tim L05/31/2017

Been happy with the product overall. Chain is already rusted and I live in San Diego where it doesn't rain much. When detaching, I find I need to move the truck up and back a skosh (sp?) to release the clamp. this is my first purchase so they may all do this. I have a 8 foot bed and pull a 40 foot 5th wheeler and would probably purchase again.

by: Sean O.03/02/2017

Wonderful Product. Installed easily in only 2.5 hours! Love it! The product is Great, however the service at etrailer.com is AMAZING! Terrific experience, incredibly fast shipping and a really competitive price! If I need it, and etrailer.com sells it, I'll buy it from them!!!!

by: Les08/21/2016

Arrived a few days later than I hoped, however, I have installed the in/underbed parts, yet removed the in bed parts in preparation for a spray-in bed liner. Easy instructions, just follow the measuring instructions diligently and recheck measurements several times before cutting/drilling. I left the underbed parts installed and the fish wire provided makes installing the forward driver side bolt a breeze. Easy to install!

Very pleased with etrailer.com. All product information and reviews help make decision very easy. Very quick delivery and installation instructions are very easy to follow. Purchased 5th wheel hitch and custom wiring extension for my 2014 F250.

I order the items I need and they were immediately placed for delivery. I received hitch and slide quickly. Packages were shipped with care. Excellent instructions.

by: Keith L.09/02/2019

Purchased this hitch, install kit, and wiring harness for a new to me 2015 F-250. After watching the installation video and reviewing the included instructions the install went smoothly. The only deviation from the instructions was instead of using a unibit to drill the 9/16" holes in the bed I used a Rotobroach hole cutter(the holes are cleaner and the bit does not drift. I hooked in to my fifth wheel for the first time on Saturday.

by: Spencer02/16/2024

Installation was super easy with etrailer's video

by: Josh 05/31/2017

2016 F350 crew standard box. Installation went well with the videos help in about 3 hrs. The bolt leader provided really helped on the driver side.

by: Richard05/01/2022

The installation is straight forward. With a helper it took about 6 hours to install. With the hitch set at it lowest height was able to close my bed cover.

by: DB06/29/2017

GREAT product, GREAT price, GREAT folks to deal with! Installed easily, followed the online video and everything went together perfectly. I did move my gas tank vent line on the left side as I was afraid the center bolt head would rub a hole in it but not a big deal.

Etrailer is terrific!

by: Reed04/05/2023

2012 Ford F-250 - Fast shipping and easy to follow directions were included. Bed rails and side plates lined up perfectly. My truck has the line x bedliner so I added 1/8” when setting the first rail. I highly recommend using a step bit to drill your holes for the rails in the bed. No drilling was required for the side plates into the frame. Install by myself took 4 hours with no lift. Could definitely be completed faster with an extra hand or lift. Measure several times and drill once and everything will line up great. Highly recommend!

The Curt A25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch with S25 slider worked perfectly on my 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali. Install was a breeze. Great pricing as well at etrailer.com.

by: JOHN 09/25/2024

The kit fit extremely well. With my wife and I doing the install it took about 3 hours but 2 hours were trying to reach a dropped bolt!!! Dropped one of the frame bolts inbetween the frame and the DPF tank. Other than that the install was fairly straight forward. Just went out and looked at the brackets and after a year still no rust on them. Definately would buy this again if needed.

by: Richard P08/31/2016

Product was an exact fit for my 2016 F350 (I have Dual wheels but the kit fits both SW and DRW to my understanding.) I've paid up to $400 labor to have rails mounted in 3 previous trucks. This kit and the videos made me sure that I could do it myself, and I was right. Take your time, measure twice before drilling, and save some money. It took me about 4 hours, but only because I was being extremely cautious with a brand new vehicle. I did learn that the person that installed my previous hitch didn't follow directions as they put the spacers on the top of the bed instead of between the bed and the mounting plates in my previous truck. Getting the spacers in was the tricky part (and probably why the last installer I used didn't do it right). After seeing several other rail installations...I am much more comfortable with the way these mount to a solid rail bracket that is definitely secured better to the frame using heavy duty hardware and no drilling. Great product!

by: Anthony01/08/2026

Great product and fit for a 2014 F250. Torque requirements are very high on the 3/4” bolts so you may need some help and a big wrench.

  • Looking for Custom Fit Fifth Wheel Bracket Kit that Fits 2015 Ford F-250
Hey Justin, do you know what brand of fifth wheel rails you have? While most rails are very similar you do need to match the brand of the brackets with the brand of the rails in order for everything to work properly. Hopefully what you have is from Curt and you could then just use the Curt custom bracket kit part # C16424. The complete Curt rail and bracket kit would be the # C16424-204. If you are unsure of the rail brands is most likely the same brand as the fifth wheel hitch but that's...

As far as height adjustability and weight capacities the Curt Q20 # C16130 and the Curt A20 # C16140 are identical. They both have a Gross Towing Weight of 20,000 lbs, a Vertical Load Limit of 5,000 lbs, and a height range of 13-17 inches. When it comes to choosing which one is better, even though they are both excellent choices, I recommend going with the A20 because it has more features. Right off the bat the A20 has interlocking jaws to secure your king pin as opposed to the Q20 jaw...

  • What Is The Towing Capacity Of 2011 Ford F350 6.7L XLT SRW Crew Cab 8' Bed?
Hello CJ, thanks for reaching out. Based on the towing capacity chart I found online, the bumper pull capacity of a 2011 Ford F350 6.7L SRW Crew Cab is 14,000 lbs. The Curt Adjustable 2-Ball Mount # C99NR has a 10K capacity when used with the 2" ball, and a 15K capacity with the 2-5/16" ball. So as long as the 5-1/2" drop is sufficient for your trailer, that will be a great choice for a ball mount.

  • Pros and Cons of 5th Wheel Hitch With a Slide Bar Jaw Versus a Dual Jaw Hitch
The difference between a slide bar jaw and a dual jaw is how tightly the fifth wheel king pin is held. Both do a good job securing the king pin, preventing it from coming loose. The Dual Jaw will hold the king pin much more tightly, preventing the king pin from rattling around in the pin box. Any movement of the king pin in the hitch jaws will be easily felt and heard in the truck cab. Every time the you brake or accelerate, if there's any movement in the hitch jaws-you're gonna feel...

  • Can A 2011 Ford F-350 SRW Tow A Triple Axle Fifth Wheel Trailer
Air springs do not increase the towing capacity of the vehicle, but simply help support the suspension to get it back to factory ride height. As for the ability to tow a triple axle trailer, you can find your truck's towing capacity in the owner's manual or calculate it on your own. To find your 2011 Ford F-350's towing capacity you'll need to subtract your truck's curb weight from its Gross Combined Vehicle Weight Rating (GCVWR). The GCVWR is the maximum weight of your loaded truck and...

  • Curt 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch and Install Kit for a 2013 Ford F-350 Long Bed
We do have a Curt 5th wheel installation kit that will fit your 2013 Ford F-350 long bed but # C16448-104 is designed for older models and will not fit your truck. You will need Curt custom install kit # C16424-204 for carbide finish or # C16424-104 for glossy. Keep in mind that glossy doesn't stay glossy for long! I have linked a video showing an example installation of these kits. For a 5th wheel hitch you can't go wrong with the Curt Q25 # C16265. It's rated for 25,000 pounds gross...

  • Recommended Air Bags For a 2015 Ford F-350 That Fit With Curt 5TH Wheel Rail Kit
If your 2015 Ford F-350 SRW with the Curt Custom 5th Wheel Installation Kit # C16424-204 is 4 wheel drive the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Springs # AL88396 is the kit I recommend. Since the maximum payload on your truck is below 5,000lbs it does not help to go to one of the 7,500lb kits. This air lift kit will have internal jounce bumpers that will help to absorb bounce and road shock. If your F-350 is 2 wheel drive the Air Lift LoadLifter 5000 Ultimate Air Helper Springs # AL88395...

  • 5TH Wheel Rail Kit and 5TH Wheel Hitches For a 2005 Ford F-350
Depending on what mounts were used to attach to your frame you are going to need either the Curt Universal Rail Kit # C16200 or Curt Custom Fit Rail Kit # C16448-204. The custom fit rail kit uses mounting holes in the frame with custom brackets to connect the above bed rails. While the universal kit requires you to drill holes into the frame below the mounting holes to secure to the frame. You will need to check your frame to see which mounts were used or if they may still be in place....

  • 2018 Ram 2500 5th Wheel Base Rail Kit Recommendation
Thanks for reaching out, Jeff! For standard base rails you'll need the Curt Custom Fifth Wheel Installation Kit # C16427-204 for your 2018 Ram 2500. This is a custom kit so you won't need to drill into the frame of your truck for the installation. Then for a 5th wheel hitch I recommend checking out the Curt A25 Slider # C35DR for a short bed or Fixed # C86BV for a long bed. I really like the A series hitches because they have interlocking jaws and a fully articulating torsion head so...

  • Can A Q25 Fixed Hitch Be Used In A Short Bed 2022 Ram 2500
The Curt Q25 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Ram Towing Prep Package # C16049 would fit in a 6-1/2' bed like your 2022 Ram 2500 has, but you're limiting the amount of turning clearance you have and run the risk of the nose of the 5th wheel coming into contact with the cab of the truck when making tight turns. Because of this we typically recommend a sliding hitch to prevent this from happening. For a sliding version of the Q25 you would need parts # C35DR and # C16022. Newer model trailers...

  • Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch to Fit B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch
The only way to know how heavy a hitch you need is to find the trailer's gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) which is its maximum weight when fully loaded. There's likely a tag on the trailer that states the GVWR, or it may say on the trailer's documentation. You may also be able to contact the trailer manufacturer with the VIN to find its specs from when it was built. As a last resort you can load the trailer and weigh it. Of course this requires you to get it to a scale and you still...

  • Recommended 25K 5th Wheel Hitch For A 2022 Ford F-350 DRW
Typically you'll only want to use 80-85% of any item's total capacity to keep a buffer safety zone so that you never risk having a product fail. You're correct that the only Companions at 25k capacity are for OEM puck systems. B&W is a great brand and is my favorite as well, but in this case they're not going to have anything compatible with with the # BWGNRK1116-5W that's going to have over 20k capacity, so you'll have to look at another brand.
