Rear Assist Lines

The rear assist lines generated by the system's camera make connecting your fifth wheel camper or gooseneck trailer a one-person job. The lines appear on the included 4.3" rear view mirror monitor and show the distance from other objects, allowing you to accurately line up your connection point when hooking up your camper or trailer.

0 Lux Night Vision

0 Lux night vision produces a quality picture and gives you the flexibility you need when hooking up your camper or trailer. You can line up your connection point in low-light conditions at dusk, or in complete darkness at night without the aid of IR transmitters.

Rear View Mirror Monitor

Rear View Mirror with Assist Lines

The rear view mirror monitor replaces your existing rear view mirror, giving you the same functionality while adding a dynamic 4.3" full-color, LCD screen to view the cargo area of your truck. This dual-action mirror monitor is the perfect tool for safely connecting your fifth wheel camper or gooseneck trailer, allowing you to see your truck bed and camper at the same time.

Simple Installation

Simply unscrew and unplug your factory third brake light. Once removed, set your new custom bezel with camera in place. Feed the 6' camera wire through the opening into your truck and re-install your factory third brake light in front of the custom bezel.

Next, connect your 6' camera wire to the 18' wiring harness. This combined 24" wire will extend through your head liner or door sill panel along the edge of the floor, up to the front of your truck, and connect with the included ground and power wiring harness. The power wire will run to your truck's battery.

3rd Brake Light

The custom bezel will only fit the flat, new-style 3rd brake light as pictured above.

Video Transcript for Comprehensive Review: Custom Third Brake Light Camera System w/ Rear View Mirror

Hi there I'm Michael with Etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a quick look at this custom third brake light camera system with rear view mirror. Now this rear view monitor is going to replace your existing rear view mirror. When it's turned off like it is now it's gonna function like your existing mirror so you're gonna have a nice clear reflection so you can see what's coming up behind you. But then when you turn it on it's going to automatically engage that camera that's gonna be mounted on your third brake light bezel here. That's going to allow you to see into your truck bed so it's going to make it much easier for you to keep an eye on your cargo or assist you as you're connected to a fifth wheel or gooseneck trailer.

Our bezel is gonna install behind that third brake light. It is a custom fit your 2019 and newer Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500. It's gonna be a very simple installation, you're not gonna need to do any drilling, you'll just reuse the holes that are already there, and the included hardware that comes with this. The camera itself is only about an inch and a half in diameter. So it is going to be very minimal, inconspicuous, probably won't even notice it's there after awhile.

The camera itself is a nice waterproof aluminum construction that's gonna resist dust and corrosion. It is IP69 rated, so it's going to keep out all that dust, and close range spraying with water isn't going to harm it. So if you want to go get your truck cleaned it's not going to be a problem with this. It does give you 150 degrees of viewing angle. And you can manually adjust it 360 degrees for a perfect angle for your truck.

Make sure that you can see your fifth wheel hitch or your gooseneck ball, make sure everything gonna be lined up the way that you need it to. This does have a resolution of 620 lines. Our rear view mirror is gonna have that integrated 4.3 full color LCD screen. So we're gonna have that nice clear image. As I move the camera around here you can see that we are going to have that nice resolution of 700 by 234.

It's also going to give us that red, yellow, and green lines there to help us see the distance of the object behind us. We can adjust the color, the brightness, the contrast, and the image orientation. So depending on what we need there, very easy to get that all set up. And then also it's gonna have this zero lux night vision it's gonna produce this nice high quality picture in complete darkness without infrared transmitters. So even if we're hooking up late at night, you don't have a whole lot of light, this is gonna give us options there. Very easy to get this whole system setup. It's got wires that are compatible with your 12 volt, or 24 volt DC system. Our wiring harness here is about 24 feet so plenty of room to run through the back opening. Where you're gonna mount your camera up to the front. Where you're going to mount you monitor. We do have about 20 and 1/8th of an inch for our rear view monitor, so plenty of distance between the different wiring setups that we have, very easy to get connected. And you do want to make sure that when you are installing this that you're connecting your power source to the wire that's only going to be providing power when your ignition is on. Don't want to mount it directly to your battery because you don't want it to wear down your battery over time. And it is recommended that you put in a toggle switch so that you can turn on that camera when you want it. The monitor will automatically pick up the feed as soon as the camera is turned on. So it's gonna be nice to have that on/off feature to make sure that you're able to use the mirror as a mirror when you don't want it to, to be able to turn it off. And then turn it on if you want to see into the back of your bed for hooking up into those fifth wheels, goosenecks, or just checking on your load. So everything you're going to need is included here. It is a nice custom fit for your vehicle so it's gonna blend right in, not gonna be very conspicuous, not gonna take away from the look of your truck at all. It's just gonna provide that extra help for you in getting hooked up or keeping your eye on the load. So it's gonna complete our look for today. Again I'm Michael with Etrailer.com, thanks for watching..

Hard to see in bright sun other than that easy to install

by:

Image only covers 1/2 the mirror & is too small to see any details

by:

Sales experience was seamless, product was installed professionally on a public safety vehicle and there has been no negative feedback reference the rearview camera.

The quality of the parts seem good but the directions to install everything were horrible (essentially none existent) and I had to go to [online] to figure out how to remove my factory mirror for the new mirror install and the wiring I figured out by trial and error. The camera kit should have included longer screws to replace the stock screws on the F250 brake light. The order was delayed about a month due to supply chain shortages. Once I got got it all together it works well, just disappointed in the instructions and should have provided replacement screws.

The directions are poor at best. You have to figure it out on your own, which isn't a real big problem, but some additional information would be nice. The bezel for the camera is nice, but doesn't fit 100%. Its close enough, but you have to play with it a little.

Additionally, I'm not sure why the camera has a 6' cable, then there is a REQUIRED 24' cable to then connect to another 6' cable to the mirror. I'm wanting to install the mirror in my truck, not the truck in front of me. I don't need 36' of cable, its a Crew Cab, not a buss. So it means you have ALOT of cable to stash.

Also, other than changing the brightness, I have no idea what the POWER button on the mirror does. I wired to a switched power source figuring I could just press the power button to turn the monitor on and off. Guess what.. you can't. It is ON. To have this work right, you'd have to figure out a way to wire it to the reverse light switch.

And once you find this issue (despite the item description clearly stating the power button can be used to turn it on and off), good luck getting help from etrailer. Was told I would be contacted by someone from technical support days ago... its been crickets.

It also sucks the mirror is autodiming, despite what looks like light sensors front and rear, it does not dim (only found that mentioned in the two page "manual/install guide".

I would have given this a higher score if it were not for the lack of decent instructions or how the mirror actually works, Secondly, I don't like the fuse placement on the mirror, I will splice it out and add it somewhere else that is accessible. I do like the fact you can connect 3 cameras, again, no instructions how the mirror switches between the two. After testing, when a camera is powered, the screen show that particular camera. I will be adding the cargo cam and an additional front cam to my aux switches so I have control over them. Also, the cargo cam is 620 lines, as advertised but no specs on the mirror monitor. After receiving the item, the mirror only produces 480 lines. Not deal breaker as the picture quality is good for a 4.3" screen.

Haven't installed yet, but did bench test on the cargo cam as well as an additional cam I purchased. Works flawlessly.

Overall, not a bad product, just need some more info/instructions and options for the mirror fuse.

  • Will Third Brake Light Camera Kit Allow for Visibility Past Bike on Carrier
Hey Jimmie, while the Custom Third Brake Light Camera System w/ Rear View Mirror # GCH74FR was mostly intended to be used to help with connecting to a fifth wheel or gooseneck trailer it does allow you to see over the tailgate as well and see what is behind the truck. Will it be as awesome of a view as you'd like? That I am not sure but it would be able to see what's behind the bike and carrier for sure.

  • Rear View Mirror 3rd Light Camera Fitment on a 2020 Ram 1500 Truck
Hey Randy, The Custom Third Brake Light Camera System w/ Rear View Mirror # GCH74FR that I referenced comes with it's own replacement mirror and 3rd brake light bracket/camera. This mounts to a standard rear view mirror bracket so if your Ram has a different mounting style then you'll need to pick up one of the standard brackets at your local automotive store. We don't have anything that will work with your factory 12" screen.
