How to Determine if 2014 Ford Explorer Has Factory Tow Package
Question:
I am goin going on a roadtrip and would like to tow a small trailer on the way back. I have a 2014 ford explorer sport, but my Dad said I need to see if I have the tow package. I have the vin but the website I tried to look it up didnt have a field for the tow package. How can I tell?

The best way to determine if your Explorer is equipped with the tow package is to check with your Ford dealer. They should be able to run the VIN and be able to tell you exactly how the vehicle was equipped.
I'm assuming you're needing the information to determine the towing capacity of your Explorer. I ran the provided VIN through a Ford VIN decoder, and found that your particular vehicle has the higher of the 2 listed towing capacities at 5000 lbs which would lead me to believe that your Explorer was equipped with the 'tow package'.
For a trailer hitch, I'd recommend the USA manufactured # C13386 and # 118272 for a trailer wiring harness. You'll also need a ball mount and a trailer ball. For a ball mount, use # D-4 and Hitch Pin and Clip, # PC3. For a trailer ball, use # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch ball.
I've linked you to installation videos for the hitch and the trailer wiring.
