Chevrolet Silverado Roof Rack Questions and Answers

  • Roof Rack and Canoe Carrier Recommendation for a 2008 Chevy Silverado
  • A Rhino Rack Roof Rack that includes the part # RRRLKHD would do an excellent job for carrying a 15 foot canoe on your 2008 Chevy Silverado. The rest of the parts needed to complete the roof rack would be the part # RB1375B-2 and # DK227. This is one of the strongest racks we offer so it would definitely take a lot of abuse. It would be great for carrying your canoe. For securing a canoe upside down on the crossbars I would recommend the Ratchet Grab part # RRRRG. I spoke to my contact...

  • How Rhino Rack # DK227 Clamp Kit Attaches to Roof of 2008 Chevy Silverado
  • The Rhino Rack # DK227 clamp kit fits over the rubber trim at the top of the door jamb. Other than putting holes in the roof of the vehicle, this is the usual way of installing a roof rack that works very well. I haven't heard any reports of leakage or damage to the door gaskets. I don't have any photos available, but if you click the provided link you can see an install video showing the clamp kit being used on a Chevy Silverado.

  • Adding a Single Thule Roof Rack Crossbar to a 2011 Chevy Silverado
  • For Thule you can get a single bar but the fit kit is just available in the complete kit, not a half pack. You can also get a 2-pack only of the feet. The fit kit is the only thing that is a complete kit. For a 2011 Chevy Silverado with a naked roof you would need one 58 inch bar, # 853-0182-14. For the feet you would need the Traverse half-pack, # TH4802. And for the fit kit you would need # THKIT1532.

  • Differences Between Thule Fit Kits 1531 and 1532
  • The main difference between the Thule Roof Fit Kits part # THKIT1532 and # THKIT1531 is the styles of roofs they are designed to fit. The biggest difference is the clip design. Check out the picture I attached that shows the clips next to each so you can see the differences. To figure out what fit kit you would need for your vehicle as well as the other components needed follow the link I attached that will ask for your year/make/model of your vehicle and all of the roof racks will be listed.

  • Universal Roof Rack to Carry a Dual Kayak on a 2006 Chevy Cobalt and 2009 Chevy Silverado
  • You will not be able to use a custom roof rack for both vehicle since they have specialty parts designed only for a given vehicle. But there is an option that could work for you. You could use 2 of the Darby universal roof rack crossbars, # DTA968. These mount to the vehicle roof via a strap that you run through the vehicle interior. It is not the prettiest set up but it is portable and you will be able to use it on the 2006 Chevy Cobalt and 2009 Chevy Silverado. Be sure to consult...

  • Rhino Rack Half Rack Recommendation for a 2003 Chevy Silverado
  • Yes, the Rhino-Rack 2500 Series Roof Rack Half Kit # DH1375HS will fit your 2003 Chevy Silverado. You will need the fit kit to go along with this though. For that you would want the Custom DK Clamps and Pads # DK227H. This is also a half kit just like the # DH1375HS. If you are looking for a complete kit that consists of 2 crossbars you would need these part numbers instead, part # DH1375S and part # DK227.

  • How to Order Additional Security Allen Wrench Key for Rhino-Rack 2500 Roof Rack System
  • The Rhino-Rack Custom DK Clamps and Pads # DK227 that you referenced does not come with a security Allen wrench security key in this kit. The # DK227 includes 4 clamps and 4 pads which are vehicle specific. If you would like an additional security key use Rhino-Rack # SECKEY-L. This security key, (like the one that comes in your initial Rhino-Rack cross-bar kit), comes with a hole drilled into the center of the shaft to be used exclusively on the Rhino-Rack hardware. This key has a shaft...

  • Carrying a Canoe on Roof of 2001 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab
  • In addition to the feet and crossbar provided by the # DA1500HALF, you will also need the vehicle-specific 1/2 clamp kit used to attach the crossbars to the truck, part # DK227H. You would also need the Rhino Rack T-Load Hitch Mounted Load Assist you mentioned, part # RTL002. The T-Load includes a strap to secure your canoe to the rear crossbar, but I would also recommend using a foam block system like part # Y04055. This universal foam block canoe carrier includes foam blocks that will...

  • Distance from Roof to Crossbars Using Thule Traverse Foot Pack # TH480 on a 2005 Chevy Silverado
  • A lot depends on the vehicle a roof rack foot is mounted on but in general, from the bottom of the foot to the mid-point of the bar is approximately 4 inches. The vehicle entered is a 2005 Chevy Silverado. I have included a link to the roof rack main page for the vehicle for you to view.

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD With Minimal Wind Noise
  • The wind noise will be noticeable if you install a roof rack to support a spare tire. To help reduce some of the wind noise, I would recommend choosing a roof rack with elliptical crossbars like the Rhino-Rack RS 2500 Roof Rack, # RRRS521B for Extended Cab models or # RRRS519B for crew cab models. These roof racks are also available in silver as part # RRRS521 and # RRRS519. If you have a regular cab model, then you can use the Thule Travers Roof Rack which consists of the 60 inch AeroBlade...

  • How would the Yakima Q Clips Attach on the Roof of a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado with Only 3 Doors
  • The Yakima Q Clips, # Y00709, all attach in the front door channels on the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado Ext. Cab 3dr. This leaves you with a cross bar spread of only 16 inches. I would recommend adding the Yakima Q Stretch Kit, # Y00134, to your truck to get a 30 inch cross bar spread which will make things much more secure on the vehicle. I have attached a drawing showing how the stretch kit will work on the roof of your truck. For the complete roof rack for your 1999 Silverado extended...

  • Do You Carry a Set of Yakima Roof Rack Towers to Fit in Rain Gutters
  • The Yakima Tower Kit we have for Rain Gutters is part # Y00101. You will also need an SKS Lock Core Kit, part # Y07204. You will also need a set of cross bars. If you write back with the width of the Jayco trailer, gutter to gutter, I can suggest an appropriate length for a cross bar. Make sure to check the load capacity of the trailer roof before you use the roof rack.

Chevrolet Silverado Roof Bike Racks Questions and Answers

  • Can Swagman Roof Bike Carrier, Part # S64720, Mount on Curt Folding Cargo Carrier, Part # C18132
  • The Swagman Rooftop Bike Carrier, part # S64720, is designed as a universal-mount bike carrier that can be adapted to most brands and types of roof rack cross bars. Since it uses 3-1/8-inch wide u-bolt hardware to secure the wheel tray to the mounting surface it can be fitted to a variety of crossbars, including the wider aerodynamic type and most factory bars. I pulled a sample from our warehouse and took measurements. The assembled Swagman wheel tray is only 54 inches long, so it would...
