License Plate and Light Kit for Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Racks

Updated 10/14/2026 | Published 10/13/2026

Question:

I have a Kuat Sherpa 2.0 bike rack and would like to know what tail light packages and license plat holder would work with that. I have a 7 pin electric connection on the 2025 BMW X5 and have a 4 pin one I ordered from you for the Honda CRV. Thanks.

Hey Roberta!

There isn't a light kit made specifically for your Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack, so I recommend going with the Yakima PlateMate # Y02713 to mount your license plate and Curt Auxiliary LED Indicator Lights # C53201 to add running, turn, and brake lights to the bike rack.

The # Y02713 mounts to your bike, or when no bike is installed, the rack. It uses velcro straps for easy switching between different setups once you get to your destination. I've posted a photo of the plate holder below for your reference.

The # C53201 mounts directly to the rack using 3M tape. The lights are waterproof and weather-resistant, so they won't run into any issues when faced with rain or snow. The lights connect to your CR-V via the 4-way connector, and since your 2025 BMW X5 doesn't have the dedicated 4-way connection, you'll need an adapter like the Curt 7-Way to 4-Way/5-Way Trailer Adapter # C35FR. You can see a neighbor photo below of the lights mounted on a Sherpa 2.0.

Those three parts will give you everything you need to haul your bikes and avoid being stopped due to an obscured plate or taillights. What kind of bikes are you hauling, and where do you typically take them?

Oh and it is generally going to be an SL gravel e-bike (small frame and about 36 pounds) and highway and gravel road.

@RobertaK Those Trek bikes are really nice! I have my eye on one as well. The construction is great, and the color is very eye-catching!
