Question:
I will be buying a 2026 Maverick Lariat soon and would like to flat tow behind our new RV 2025 Thor Chateau Printer with Mercedes chassis. What is your recommendation on what I should purchase and does your company do the install? We are new to RVing and have a lot to learn so would appreciate your insights. Thanks, Craig.

Hello Craig,
Welcome to the RV world, you are going to love it!! I was just at the RV Road Show in St. Louis, and the 2025 Thor Chateau Printer on the Mercedes chassis is the perfect size in my book.
I am attaching a couple of helpful articles for you to check out: Must-Have Flat Towing Components, What Is a Supplemental Braking System?, and What Is Flat Towing and How to Ditch the Trailer. They all have some really useful information and do a great job explaining the basics.
We do in fact do installs here at our location in Wentzville, MO, and we actually have people drive in from all over the United States to get their flat tow setup installed here. A big part of that is because we offer free installation when we need the video footage. I have also included our Dealer Locator so you can see what dealers we have in your area as well, just keep in mind they will charge for installation.
Here is the setup I recommend:
- Base Plate: Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit with Removable Arms # DM38CV
- Tow Bar: Demco Dominator Non-Binding Tow Bar, RV Mount, 2 inch Hitch, 7,500 lbs # DM9511008. This does come with safety cables.
- Vehicle Protection: Roadmaster Tow Defender Protective Screen for Towed Vehicles # RM-4750
- Wiring: Roadmaster 4-Diode Universal Wiring Kit for Towed Vehicles, 7-Way to 6-Way Coiled Adapter Cord # RM-15267
- Charge Line Kit: Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25. I like to call this one “peace of mind,” since it helps ensure your towed vehicle’s battery is not dead when you arrive at your destination.
- Brake Light Switch Kit: If the brake lights do not work with the towed vehicle’s ignition key turned to the tow position, you will need a brake light switch kit to provide a signal to the supplemental braking system. The one I recommend is the Roadmaster Universal Stop Light Switch Kit # RM-751000.
- Braking System: Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo Braking System for RVs w/ Hydraulic Brakes - Wireless Monitor - Proportional # DM86VR.
One thing I will not be able to confirm just yet is whether you will need a hi-lo adapter to achieve level towing. I attached a picture showing where the base plate installs on the 2026 Maverick. Once you have the vehicle on level ground, please measure from the ground up to where the base plate arms will sit. Then, on level ground, measure from the ground to the upper inside edge of your hitch receiver. Once you have those two measurements, send them my way and I can get you the correct adapter part number.
I am a little biased when it comes to tow bars. Ever since Demco came out and did a hands-on training with us, I really got to spend time using and comparing them. In my opinion, the Demco Dominator truly dominated the other brands. It was much easier to maneuver, attach, and detach, which makes a big difference day to day. That said, if there is a different brand you were already looking at or prefer, just let me know and we can absolutely swap it out.
If you have any questions, please ask away, that is what I am here for =)
Now for the big question, when you get things all put together where are you going for the big break-in trip?

Hi Craig, You won’t go wrong with the Demco base plate for your 2026 Maverick. I have the 2025, and was one of the first to get the new base plate with the redesign for the radar unit on our trucks. It was fairly easy to install myself, although I was a bit frustrated getting the fascia back on. It turns out the little fins in the opening beside the connectors for the towbar need to be cut back slightly. It would have been so much easier if I’d known that. Otherwise the Maverick truck club is a great place To get more info on these products and anything else you need. Eric

Thanks very helpful. We live in Daytona Beach, FL. Can you send information on one of your dealers in that area? Would I buy all these components direct from you or the dealer? I definitely would use the dealer to install the equipment. Thanks, Craig. P.S. - our first trip towing will be somewhere in FL. My wife is scoping out a number of places to go:)
