Question:
I have a 2022 Geopro 19FDS, single axle trailer with a Dexter Torsion axle DEX : 9798179 S/N: 615576778 Capacity: 3900 I took it in for wheel and brake service and was told this was a custom axle and parts were very hard to get, and cost much more than the standard axles. In looking at your website, it appears that the 3900 parts are not shown in your inventory. The trailer service place said I should install a more standard axle like the 4400 series, or always have an extra brake set available. Further, they said that the custom backing plate I need has a 4-bolt trapezoid pattern, rather than the standard 4-square or 5-pentagon pattern, and the drums were also not the standard width, but just slightly wider. What is your experience with this axle, and what do you suggest?

Hey Jim! A lot of axles on trailers like your 2022 Geo Pro 19FDS are technically custom axles but they almost always use standard parts. Your particular axle uses 4k hubs # K08-426-91 and Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # K23-478-479. This is all coming from Dexter based on your serial number.
I'm assuming they looked at your brake flange when the axle was sitting in a different position, it is a standard 4-bolt. The brakes are the outlier here since the 4,400 lb aren't as common and run a higher cost. If you moved to a higher rated 4,400 lb axle you're still looking at the same brakes so all that would do is add additional cost. If they keep trying to push the new axle for no reason I would consider taking your trailer elsewhere.

Hey Jim, how did things turn out with the Dexter 4k hubs and Nev-R-Adjust brakes on your Geo Pro trailer? Did that setup match what you found on your axle? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with similar custom axle questions.
