Thoroughly Tested for Safety

This hub-and-drum assembly meets the requirements for certification by the Canadian Standards Association (CSA). The CSA creates standards, which when complied with ensure a safe and quality product. This assembly underwent extensive testing to measure stopping distances when braking. This assembly has also been tested by QAI for braking performance in a complete automotive setup and under real-world conditions to provide the most realistic scenario for the everyday driver.

E-Z Lube and Easy Grease-Compatible Assembly for Simple Lubrication

The grease cap on this hub-and-drum assembly is specially designed to work with your Dexter E-Z Lube or etrailer Easy Grease axle to make lubricating bearings quick and easy. Just remove the plug on the grease cap, attach a grease gun to the zerk fitting on the end of the spindle, and inject the grease. It will flow easily to both inner and outer bearings. Not only does this make lubricating the bearings easy, but it also helps to prevent corrosion of the hub. This is because you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: 8 on 6-1/2 means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: 5 on 4-1/2 means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern - Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • Can I Add Electric Brakes To A 1993 EZ Loader Boat Trailer
Hello Mike. It sounds like you are wanting to add electric brakes to your boat trailer that currently has no brakes. This is possible, but you will first need to make sure that your axle is equipped with a brake flange at the base of the spindle. The brake flange is necessary for adding brakes. If you do have a brake flange, you will next need to determine your bearing sizes. Electric brakes will require new hubs and drum assemblies, and we need to be sure that there is a drum available...

  • How To Match Up Hub And Bearings For KH71744 On Trailer
We will need some more information in order to track down a new hub to fit your assembly K-H 71744. Pull off your old hub and look for numbers stamped into the bearings. If you do not see the numbers then you will need to use 4" Carbon Fiber Digital Caliper # PTW80157 or similar tool to measure the spindle (see photo). You will also want to verify the weight rating/capacity of your axles. Now that you have the essential information you can click on the link I attached regarding trailer...

  • How To Find Correct Replacement Bearings and Hub for Outback Trailer with AL-KO Axles
I have a few options for you to help with identifying the bearings on your trailer. The first and easiest method would be to crawl under the trailer and look for the axle tag on the beam. This should give an axle capacity which we can then use to find the bearings based off industry standards. For example, a 3,500 lb axle uses L68149 and L44649 bearings like what comes with the Hub Bearing Kit for Lippert, Dexter, and Al-Ko Axles part # BK2-100 or the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly...

In most cases, you can just simply add brakes to the existing axle and you don't need an entire new axle. That said, this is all based on the axle capacity and I don't have any way to look this up for you. If you have a 3,500 lb axle for example, you'd need the following: Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-35-SA Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K Junction Box # 3375601101 7-Way Connector # H20046 Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit part...

In order to determine the correct hub and drum replacement you will need to know what bearings your trailer is using. Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors like the # BB1980A-SS that fit a 1.98" hub bore are commonly found on 2,000-3,500 lb axles, so you can't use the hub bore to determine what you have. The best way to find what bearings you're using is to pull the bearings and look for a part number. You can also measure their inner diameter, or the spindle, with a digital caliper like # PTW80157. • Parts Needed to Add Brakes to 3,500 lb Trailer Axle
Since we know you have 3,500 lb axles we can pretty easily pick out the correct parts you'd need to add brakes to your trailer. You'd need new hubs that have integrated drums like with the part # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K which have the very common 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Then you'd need to add matching brake assemblies with the part # AKEBRK-35-SA and you'd be set aside from 10 gauge wiring like part # 10-1-1 which we offer that you'd want to wire up the assemblies with. This is sold by the foot.

But what I would guess happened to you is that you overfilled the hub with grease by accident which then caused the seal to fail once you got on the road.
