Features to know about

Built for Heavy-Duty Use: Fits 4,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles

When you’re running a trailer that sees regular use, you want solid braking performance and parts that hold up. This Dexter hub-and-drum assembly fits 4,000-lb E-Z Lube axles with #84 spindles and works with both electric and hydraulic drum brakes. The 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide drum gives your brake shoes a reliable surface to grip for smooth, consistent stopping. With a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and 2,000-lb weight capacity per hub, it’s a dependable foundation for your braking system.

Simpler Maintenance on the Road: E-Z Lube Grease Cap Access

Keeping bearings lubricated doesn’t have to mean taking everything apart. The included E-Z Lube-compatible grease cap lets you inject grease right through the zerk fitting on the spindle. Just pop out the rubber plug and pump in fresh grease—it flows through both inner and outer bearings without disassembly. That means less downtime, less mess, and better protection from corrosion inside the hub.

Complete, Ready-to-Install Kit: Bearings, Seal, and Hardware Included

Everything you need for the hub install is already in the box—inner bearing L68149, outer bearing L44649, matching races, grease seal 58846 (1.719" ID and 2.565" OD), grease cap, hex nut, retainer nut, wheel bolts, and lug nuts. Each bearing and race fits precisely, so you can bolt the assembly on and get back to towing without hunting for extra parts.

Durable Iron Construction: Long-Lasting Brake Contact Surface

The sturdy iron hub-and-drum design holds up to repeated braking and offers a smooth, even surface for your shoes to grab. Built to handle real-world use, it gives you steady braking and long service life, whether it’s installed as a fresh build or a direct replacement.

1. Count the lug holes

Look at the wheel hub or the back of the wheel and count how many lug holes there are(also called bolt holes).

Common configurations include: 4-lug, 5-lug, 6-lug and 8 lug

2a. For even lug counts (4-lug, 6-lug, 8-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole directly across to the center of the hole opposite it.

Center to Center
Common configurations: 4 on 4", 6 on 5.5", 8 on 6.5"

2b. For odd lug counts (5-lug)

Measure from the center of one lug hole to the outer edge of the hole directly across (not center-to-center since there's no directly opposite hole).

Center to Outside Edge
Common configurations: 5 on 4.5" (most popular), 5 on 5", 5 on 4.75", 5 on 5.5"

Fine but too expensive. Cheaper to buy local.

by:

Quick service, right parts, fast delivery and good price.

by:

Parts were overnighted and delivered on time. Thanks to Paula S. for her help.

by:

Product was as ordered, and arrived on time. Good job, etrailer!

by:

It was properly packaged to keep the bearings and other hardware separate from the hub.

by:

Product good but disappointed in shipping, paid extra for expedited shipping and product arrived two days later than was promised

by:

Exact match. Perfect fit.

by:

These were installed less than a year ago and the whole wheel fell off while driving down the road. Not even so much as a sorry from this manufacturer. Never buy this product again.

by:

Received inner hub bearing damaged.

That stinks! I sent this to customer service and I see that they have rectified this for you.

by:

The product was easy to order, communication was very good during the shipping process, it arrived quickly and correct. One suggestion would be to pack the box a little tighter. The heavy boxes were packed in a larger box and the items bounced around a lot. Some of the small parts bags tore open but luckily were not damaged. Thanks for your great service. I will order again and recommend.

by:

I know you guys are the retailers but you need to speak to Dexter. Attached are photos of the hub you sent me and all the corrosion. I spent time with 600 grit sandpaper wet sanding the already installed outer races. They cleaned up to an auto quality for usage. In my old position, aviation maintenance I would have rejected this part. I will still need to spend time cleaning out the passage way between the bearings. I have an EZ Lube unit and the grease passes through the inner cavity so it must be free of loose debris.
Dexter should never ship bare metal parts. They corrode quickly. Just a quick spra of LPS 2 or the such would have eliminated this corrosion. They should have also kept the Lip Seal in its box. In the bag with the seal is a large lock washer it could cut or damage the
Lip Seal.

by:

Thank you Haley for sending the correct drums. I sent two sets back, they were for 35k axles instead of 4k. I’m having a problem getting proper brakes. I have adjusted the shoes according to the instructions, but still getting very little braking. I’m told to drive it for a while to see if the self adjust will work. Over all I am happy with your products, thanks.

by:

I desperately needed this item(s) during the period of time when the supply chain was dysfunctional due to covid, etc. The shop doing the work on my camper trailer unsuccessfully tried for a couple of months to obtain the items through the manufacturer. I then contacted etrailer who had the parts in stock and supplied them to me in a week. The parts worked excellently and the etrailer customer service was competent, professional and responsive.

by:

Ordered complete hub bearing assembly for all four wheels on my trailer. The order came quickly but box was damaged on the hub assembly. The bearings and other loose parts are in a plastic bag which were open and look like got smashed between the box and the hub. I think if they put the loose parts in a better box and maybe inside the drum to protect him would be better. it’s a bit frustrating when you spend a lot of money for four drum hubs and four brake assemblies and you’re ready to put them on your trailer and you can’t because someone didn’t care about their job along the way. I’m glad I inspected everything because if not the bearing probably would have done some damage with the cage being smashed against the rollers bearings. I called the e trailer that night and looks like everything‘s getting taken care of they going to send me new bearings appreciate it very much

Jill is a great person to work with. After spending 2 days fighting with local companies and the local Dexter rep, I found E-Trailer. Jill was able to confirm right away that they had the part we needed to get a stranded customer back on the road. We had to overnight the part to us. Everything went smoothly. I highly recommend working with this company, especially on hard to find trailer parts.

by:

Perfect fit! Shipping was very fast amd customer service is excellent. Thank you

by:

This Hub actually fits my 3700 lbs dexter axle on my Jayco Jay Flight SLX 195RB. Be very specific when ordering by finding out exactly what size your axle is. I ordered when broken down on a busy highway and didn't have all the facts correct and subsequently received the wrong brake assembly and hub assembly, but Nicole H worked with me and got the situation corrected. Nicole cares about her customers,so if you need professional and friendly help ask to speak to Nicole as she represents what all of us want, and that is service.

Thanks for sharing your kudos about Hannah! She will be happy to know that she helped get you just what you needed so you could get back on the road! Hopefully when you head out to your next destination everything will be smooth sailing for you, Eddie!

by:

I have installed the brake assemblies and hubs including bearings and seals for both wheels on my Dexter 4000# axle, and they fit perfectly. However, I have not pulled the trailer yet. I’m impressed that when you call etrailer a human being answers the phone and they are most helpful. The website is impressive in that it shows great detail. I usually have a “but” - not in this case.

Quality original equipment but oh so expensive. Ouch!

After replacing both brake assemblies on my camping trailer and camping over the past year, the brakes are working as they should and I have not had any issues. I am traveling with confidence once again.
Thanks Etrailer!

Dexter trailer hubs and brakes where exact fit for our Rockwood travel trailer. Installation was straight forward and brakes have worked perfectly since installed. Delivery of parts was prompt. Since then I have ordered and installed a powered tongue jack which also fits our camper and works well.

Standard capacities and ratings have changed quite a bit since then and I was unable to find much on a 2 inch square axle. This does not mean you cannot replace brakes, hubs, or bearings.
