Question:
Hi, I have an 2023 airstream base camp 20x, I see the recommended weight distribution hitch is the blue ox model bxw0650. As I intend to go bigger in the next year, would I be okay purchasing the bxw0850 for use on the 20x until then? Thanks!

Hello Jason, thanks for reaching out. The correct weight distribution (WD) hitch for your 2023 Airstream Basecamp 20x depends completely on the loaded tongue weight. Each WD hitch has a range of tongue weights it will work with, and ideally we want your trailer weight to fall right within that range. According to the online specs, your trailer has a hitch weight of 535 lbs.
The Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution # BLU36FR you mentioned is for trailers with a tongue weight between 200-600 lbs. So this would be a great option for you as long as the loaded tongue weight stays under 600 lbs.
If you end up getting a heavier trailer, you can actually use the same WD hitch, you just need to upgrade the spring bars. So for example if your new trailer was like 800 lbs of tongue weight you can swap out the bars for the Replacement 800-lb Spring Bars for Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution System # BLU25FR. That will definitely help to keep the future costs down compared to buying a whole new WD hitch.
