SwayPro pairs weight distribution with continuous, noise-free sway prevention in all weather conditions, and the hitch head uses built-in caster to help center your trailer during towing. The trailer tracks behind the tow vehicle with less correction from the driver, making long highway stretches feel smoother and easier to manage.
Rear squat and front-end lift usually show up after the trailer is loaded for the trip, not when it's sitting empty in a brochure. This configuration is rated for 200 to 550 lbs of loaded tongue weight and up to 5,500 lbs gross towing weight, giving your trailer a clear load window to match before setup. The weight distributing hitch spreads load across the tow vehicle and trailer axles, while the spring bar system supports both suspensions. Once adjusted, the rig sits more level, the front end feels settled, and the trailer rides smoother down the road.
The first setup still needs to be dialed in correctly, but routine hitching shouldn't turn into another project before every drive. SwayPro uses rotating latch brackets with a clamp-on design for quick and easy setup, and the spring bars slip in and latch by rotating 90 degrees with no additional clips or pins. It also allows backing up without disconnecting the weight distribution hitch. You can finish the hookup, back your trailer into the site, and pull forward again with the setup still connected.
Hitch hardware gets handled, stored, and exposed to rainy or snowy towing days, so finish quality matters after the first few trips. Hi, everyone, Steve here with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at the Blue Ox SwayPro weight distribution with a 2-inch hitch shank. Folks, if you've ever felt your travel trailer, camper, trailer, whatever, whenever a semi passes you, you get that sudden burst and you kind of feel everything kind of fishtail, if you will. Well, weigh distribution can prevent that. This system combines weight distribution with built-in sway control using the hangers and the chains and the tension and everything combined. And it's going to help distribute and spread that trailer's tongue weight across the axles of both your tow vehicle and the trailer, camper, whatever you're hauling.
And that's going to give you a better ride overall. Now, this system, I just have it laid out in pieces. It would look something like this when it's installed. Obviously the two hangers would be hanging on the frame of your trailer and the shank would be inside of the hitch on the tow vehicle. Now, this model is rated for a max of 5,500 pounds gross trailer vehicle weight rating and about a 350 to 550-pound max tongue rating.
And it uses a 2-5/16-inch ball. It comes ready to go out of the box as far as the ball being in place and everything. And then you got your pivot arms here on both sides. Your spring bars will go in here, along with the chains going on these hanging mechanisms here. And that's what's actually going to be cranking and spinning and getting those chains tight and everything, along with the provided tool, and of course, all the hardware and your shank here as well.
So one feature that stands out is that sway control. Instead of relying on noisy friction pads and sway bars and stuff from other brands, the Blue Ox that we're looking at today uses positive caster hitch head and tension spring bars to help continuously bring the trailer back towards the center at all times. It works great in all weather conditions as well. Hookup is a lot easier. You simply hang everything over the trailer frame, tighten everything down with the set bolts on the backside here.
And then you literally put the chains on here, and you use that, and crank it up to the right tension. The head here can pivot up or down whenever you're installing it the first time to get it at the right angle as well. And it kind of comes pre-angled out of the box, as you can see a little bit there as well. And with this system, you can easily back up as well. You don't have to disconnect the system. A lot of other brands we carry that are out in the market, a lot of those you do have to take apart or disconnect before you back up. So it's a big deal not having to do that as well.
