Updated 05/14/2026 | Published 05/13/2026

Question:

To install a break controller in a ford f150 where can I find the break wire that comes from the rear of the 7 pin connector. Can I be lucky enough to find a connection block that I can connect a wire harness to the block?

Hey Bob. There's two possible locations for the brake controller port on your 2026 Ford F-150. The most likely one is on your dash behind the coin holder above the 4WD knob. It'll be connected to the back of the coin tray which is only installed on the models that don't have the factory brake controller.

The other spot Ford's put the adapter is behind the kick panel to the left of your leg down by the floor.

If your 2026 Ford F-150 came with a 4-way or 7-way connector from the factory, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller w/ Custom Harness item # RED67CR. This is a proportional brake controller that automatically adjusts your trailer's braking based on the deceleration of your F-150. The Liberty has a unique installation method where the main unit is concealed behind your dash and the only part visible is the control knob.

So long as your truck has the brake controller port in one of those locations, you can use the custom fit wiring harness included with the Redarc item # RED67CR to complete the installation. Ford in past model years has only included the brake controller port on the truck's equipped with a factory 4-way or 7-way.

Did your F-150 come from the factory with a 7-way connector?

I have a December 2025 Ford Ranger and I just installed the Redarc Two Pro Liberty. I found the grey connector plug for the brake controller wrapped with tape to wires behind the left kick panel to the left of the pedals. It was pretty well concealed in the wiring, but I did not have to remove the kick panel. Carefully remove the tape to get at the connector. The connector fit perfectly with the Redarc custom harness which made the connection extremely easy. Fishing the wire for the controller knob through the plastic panels of the dashboard is another story. Have fun on the install.
