What Replacement Equalizer Do I Need for My TrailAir With Upgraded Shackle Kit?

Updated 08/15/2025 | Published 07/17/2025

Question:

I have a 2008 tandem axle travel trailer with Lippert 4,400 lb axles. The current equalizer is a TrailAir Equa-Flex. See Photos. Question 1 - The LC145546 is the correct replacement equalizer? Question 2 - I want to upgrade to wet bolts/bronze bushings for the rest of the suspension. Which parts do you recommend for the upgrade? Lippert Kit LC64XR shackles with 2 sets of Dexter K71-291-00 bronze bushings -OR- just one MORryde Kit MR76ZR? Thanks for the info.

Hello Robert,

Thank you so much for attaching the pictures, they’re always so helpful. In the first photo, it looks like your shackle straps are sitting a bit too vertically. That’s not a major issue, but since you’ll be replacing some suspension components anyway, we can take this opportunity to get everything aligned into that sweet spot for optimal performance. I’ve included a picture of a CRE3000 equalizer to show the ideal shackle strap angle we’re aiming for.

The hole spacing on the Equa-Flex Cushioned Equalizers - Double Eye Springs - Tandem Axle - 5K to 8K - Greasable Pivot # LC145546 is 7 1/2" from hole to hole (please see the image I attached). That spacing is too wide for your setup. Lippert used to offer an Equa-Flex model rated for 3K to 6K axles with tighter spacing, but unfortunately it has been discontinued.

Here is the setup I would go with instead:

For the equalizer, I recommend switching over to the MORryde ALLTREK 4000 Shock Absorbing Equalizers for Tandem Axle Trailers - 33" Wheelbase - 8K # MR89DR. The 6 1/2" hole spacing should line up better with what you’re replacing, but please double-check your current equalizer spacing to confirm.

For the shackle strap kit, I suggest going with MORryde as well. If your current shackle straps measure 2 1/4" from center hole to center hole, use # MR46ZR. If they measure 3 1/8", go with # MR76ZR.

If you could also measure your leaf springs with the trailer unloaded (you’ll need to jack up the frame to take the weight off), I’d be happy to check if we have a slightly shorter option to help dial in your shackle angle. You can "Reply to Kate F" with that measurement.

Thank you for the detailed reply and the information that my current Equa-Flex is longer available. The current Trail Air equalizer hole spacing is 6 3/4 inches. The MORryde equalizer with a 6 1/2" spacing is slightly smaller but not enough to significantly change the shackle angles. (3 1/4" shackles). I can answer your follow-up leaf spring question as follows. I decoded the Lippert axle tag and the tag indicates that the spring length is 26" E to E. I measured the actual springs on the trailer (loaded) and the E to E length is 26 3/16" which appears to confirm the info from the axle tag. I did not have an opportunity to measure the springs unloaded. So, what alternate spring might improve the suspension geometry? (4,400 lb axles) Thank you.

Hey Robert, Thanks for sharing those pictures! It looks like you went with the MORryde ALLTREK 4000 equalizers and the MORryde shackle kit. How did the installation go, and did it help with the shackle strap alignment? I'm curious to know because it could really help others looking to upgrade their suspension too!
