Bike Rack Needed For Hauling An E-Trike And E-Bike On A 2025 Nexus Viper

Published 11/12/2024

Question:

Ford E350 chassis with a Nexus Viper 25’ Motorhome and 2” hitch. I need to haul my wife’s Addmotor Trike and my Big Sur e-bike. I will need to include a 16” riser to mount the carrier for ground clearance at driveways etc. My concern is lifting the trike to put it in the carrier or having a method to put it in the carrier. Since I’m a Senior citizen, I don’t know how to load the trike. The E-bike is not nearly the problem. Your thoughts or suggestions?

Hi Ray,

With the Addmotor trike being over 100lbs there really just isn't s good solution here aside from towing a small utility trailer and mounting some fork mounts to the floor of the trailer for the bikes to secure to. Depending on the trailer you go with you could have a ramp to easily load and unload both the bike and trike with ease. A fork mount like the RockyMounts DropTop # RKY57ZR could potentially be used depending on the size of your thru-axle. If you don't already have them on your bikes you could get quick release skewers to make removing the front wheel and connecting to the mount fast and simple.

The rack you were looking at is designed to be mounted to and RV bumper instead of a trailer and wouldn't be large enough to handle both bikes. With the weight of the trike being so high the trike bike racks we offer unfortunately are high enough rated to accommodate it so that pretty much rules out any other kind of rack or carrier that we currently offer.

I, unfortunately, did not explain the vehicle well enough. It is a Motorhome built on a Ford E350 chassis. Does that make any difference in your response? The trike may be too heavy. I was thinking that the combined weight would not be excessive just the difficulty in loading them would be the issue.

@PapaR Unfortunately, that does not make a difference. The issue here is that there just isn't a strong enough bike carrier to accommodate your bikes. I don't know if you could swap the trike out with a lighter one or not but if that's possible then you could use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE Bike Rack # HLY87RR. It can hold on 90lb e-Trike and one 80lb e-Bike or two 80lb e-Bikes and is rated for use on motorhomes. As it stands though the only option I can safely recommend would be to tow a trailer with the bikes on it.

That’s what I’m currently doing. I now just need to change the way I secure them for travel. Thanks for your input. I appreciate the quick response.
