Replacement Trailer Wiring Needed For A 7-Way On A 2006 Dodge Ram Pickup

Updated 12/15/2025 | Published 11/10/2024

Question:

I have a 2006 dodge ram and I am having trailer light issues. The truck lights work but when connected to any working trailer and I have a few, I do not have brake lights on my right side. Is there a kit to bypass the truck trailer wire system. I need a 7 wire set up. I usually use the adapter when I go to 4 wire from 7. Thank you for your time

Hi Ray,

If one specific light signal isn't working on multiple trailers then we know the wiring on the truck has got to be the issue. If you're wanting to completely avoid the factory wiring you would need to install the Tekonsha Tail Light Converter with 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # 119178KIT, which would splice directly into your tail light wiring for your light signals. From there if you want a 7-way you can install the # ETBC7 or continue to use a 4-way to 7-way adapter if you're not needing to activate the brakes on the trailer.

The # ETBC7 would only be able to connect to an aftermarket brake controller and would not work with a factory one if that's what you currently have.

Hey Ray, how did things go with the Tekonsha tail light converter and wiring setup for your Ram? Your update could make it easier for others dealing with the same trailer light issue.
