On the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 that came with either a factory 4-Way or 7-Way trailer connector the receptacle to plug in a brake controller with a harness such as # 3020-P will either be on top of or along the side of a white rectangular box back along the firewall to the right of the emergency brake pedal. I have included a picture showing this for you. The factory plug is blue.
If your Ram did not come with a factory installed 4- or 7-Way trailer wiring harness then it is possible that the plug is not there and the controller will have to be hardwired in. I have included some additional links that will also help.

I have a 2006 Ram 1500 5.7 mega cab. I see the blue connector to the left of the emergency brake pedal. What has me confused is that I have a 4 pin connector at the hitch of the truck. If I have a connection for a brake controller in the cab, should I also have a 7 way pin at the hitch?
