Solution for Rear Sag on 2022 GMC Yukon Towing 6,000 lb Travel Trailer

Updated 11/04/2024 | Published 10/26/2024

Question:

I have a 2022 gmc Yukon Denali with 3.0 duramax diesel. Recently purchased a travel trailer with a weight of 6000lbs. Well under the tow capacity. I am experiencing rear end sag when everything is hooked up. Not sure if tongue weight of trailer, I’m sure I could track it down. Just looking for any solutions you might recommend. Thanks

Hi Jason; it looks like your 2022 Yukon towing capacity is 7,500-7,900 lbs so I'm not surprised you're getting that rear sag. The best solution is going to be a weight distribution hitch. This will keep you level and also help reduce trailer sway for a much improved towing experience. I see you looked at some suspension enhancement but your only option is the # CSS-1168F which fits a 2WD and is only for the front axle which doesn't help anything.

To choose the right weight distribution hitch you will need to find the tongue weight of your loaded setup. If you can get me the full specs of the trailer like dry tongue weight, unloaded weight, and GVWR I can at least narrow it down a bit so feel free to add it in the comments below. I know you said 6,000 lbs but I'm not sure if that is unloaded or the GVWR of the trailer. Tongue weight is typically 10-15% of the trailer weight, but the best way to find it is to actually measure with a scale like # BTBRV44FR.

For a quality WDH that is widely considered the best I recommend choosing the Equal-i-zer system. You can choose from the following based on your tongue weight:

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37040ET (tongue weight up to 400 lbs)

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37060ET (tongue weight range 200 - 600 lbs)

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET (600 lbs - 1,000 lbs)

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37120ET (800 lbs - 1,200 lbs)

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37140ET (1,000 lbs - 1,400 lbs)

-Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ64FR (1,200 lbs - 1,600 lbs)

I already have an equalizer weight distribution hitch. But I saw some spring options that looked interesting.
