Hi Roger,

To flat tow your 2009 Chevy HHR you'll need the following components:

Baseplate: Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519196.

Tow Bar: etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar # e34ZR. This tow bar comes with safety cables bracketed to the arms so you won't have them dragging and has a built-in rise/drop to help keep the tow bar level without having to purchase an additional adapter.

Tow Bar Wiring Kit: Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267. This wiring kit will transfer you motorhome's traffic signals to the tail lights of your HHR.

Braking System: If your motorhome has hydraulic brakes then you'll want the Demco Stay-IN-Play Duo # SM99251. This will need to tap into the brake light switch on your HHR, which unfortunately isn't useable so you'll also need to install a stop light switch # RM-751428 in order to get your braking signal. If your motorhome has air brakes then you'll just need the Demco Air Force One # SM99243 instead.

You'll need to remove fuse number 8 from the floor console fuse block to prevent your battery from draining while towing. I'd also install a charge line kit # RM-156-25 to prevent the braking system from draining the battery as well.

Will these components work with my automatic transmission in my 2019 Chevy HHR.

@RogerP Yes, the transmission isn't a determining factor with your HHR, luckily. You will want to refer to your owner's manual though and make sure you're following the steps listed under 'Dinghy Towing' to ensure your transmission is protected while towing.
