Trailer Leaf Springs Rated Slightly Higher Than 4,400 lb Axle

Updated 03/15/2025 | Published 08/01/2024

Question:

Hi. I have a 2020 Keystone Passport 175bh single axle. The sticker says axle capacity of 4400lbs. The stock springs are bottoming out at normal loads so I’d like to go slightly stiffer but not so much to create a harsh ride. What would you recommend? Thanks!

Hi Todd,

To go with trailer leaf springs that are slightly stiffer than the 4,400 lb rating of your axle you can go with 4,500 lb springs or 5,000 lb springs. The right one is going to depend on the length of your current springs though, as you'll need to measure from center eye to center eye of your springs to get the right length.

You'll want to measure with the trailer jacked up and no weight on the springs if you can, and since leaf springs flatten out a bit over time, you can go with ones that are a touch shorter than what your current springs measure.

We have two options for this, the 6-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,500-lb Trailer Axles - 26" Long # e27SR and 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 5,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e44SR.

Would these work for underslung springs?

Hi Kyle, I have a 3800 lb. Single axle travel trailer that currently has sagging 4- leaf springs that measure 26.5”. Would the 6 leaf 4500 lb 26” springs be an upgrade? Would they fit?

@Rayv the # e27SR will fit and be an upgrade to what you have now. If you can't get the exact size you want it to be on the shorter side, which this is. Capacity increases are fine as long as they aren't significantly higher.
