Note: To ensure proper axle alignment and suspension performance, leaf springs should always be replaced in pairs.

Leaf springs are an integral part of your trailer suspension system. The leaf springs provide the attachment points for your trailer's axle, suspending it from the frame of your trailer. Each spring flexes to absorb road shock as you travel, allowing the axle to move somewhat independently of the rest of your trailer. This helps to reduce wear and tear on the trailer and also ensures a smooth ride.

Double-eye leaf springs attach to hangers that are welded onto your trailer. One end of this spring will attach directly to the hanger with a suspension bolt. The other end will attach to shackle straps that are suspended from a hanger. These straps allow the spring to move and pivot so that it can better compensate for uneven pavement. If you have a tandem- or triple-axle trailer, the shackle straps will be attached to the equalizer that connects multiple springs.

To mount this spring, you will need hangers, shackle straps, and suspension bolts. If you are simply replacing a spring, you may still have hangers welded onto your trailer. You should, however, replace your shackle straps because they are usually the first component to wear out. You may choose to replace old suspension bolts as well. It is recommended that you replace the other leaf spring in your setup at the same time. Because springs can sag and elongate as they wear, this new spring may not exactly match the old one, and the alignment of your trailer could be affected.

If you are fabricating a trailer, you will need to purchase a hanger kit for installation. To determine the type of hanger kit that you need, you must know the specific type of leaf spring that you have, as well as your axle capacity. Depending on the hanger kits used with them, springs can be configured to work for single-, tandem- or triple-axle applications. Hangers and other suspension components can also be purchased separately if there isn't a complete kit that works for your setup.

  • How to Determine Correct Leaf Springs For 2018 Jayco Travel Trailer
Hi Austin, I can help you determine the right replacement double-eye leaf springs for your 2018 Jayco trailer, though we don't have any way of knowing what specific ones you need. It's pretty easy though, as all you need to do is measure your current leaf springs from center-to-center of the spring eyes, and you also need to know the weight rating of your axle. Based on its weight, your 174BH is likely to have a 3,500 lb axle, though you'll want to double check just to be sure. Leaf springs...

  • Best Equalizer Suspension Upgrade For Tandem 3,500 lb Axles
Those are some good options, and the best overall upgrade (without getting too crazy like you said!) for your Jayco with tandem 3,500 lb axles is going to be the MORryde CRE3000 with the X-factor crossmember. The Road Armor is good, but the combination of the upgraded MORryde equalizers with the crossmember will give you more added benefit. The cushioned equalizers are going to provide you with a more comfortable ride due to their rubber construction and suspension travel, which is going...

  • Questions About Replacing Leaf Spring On 2002 Ranger Single Axle Trailer
Hello Rocky, thanks for reaching out. If your new leaf springs do not have as much of an arch as the old springs they are definitely not going to help your situation if your tires are already rubbing on the fenders. What we would usually do here is look at the unloaded dimensions of the current spring and try to find something that matches. Just for an example, take a look at the dimensions of the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # DX23CR below. It measures 25-1/4" across and the "arch" is 3"...

  • Will a 26" Long Trailer Leaf Spring Work to Replace a 25-1/2" Long Trailer Leaf Spring
If your existing leaf springs measure 25-1/2" then the correct replacement is likely either 25-1/8" or 25-1/4" as leaf springs stretch over time. Please note, leaf springs should also be measured with the trailer unloaded. I have attached for you below options in both these lengths, you'd just need to filter with your axle capacity. The 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 3,500-lb Trailer Axles part # e54SR is a pretty common replacement measuring 25-1/8".

  • Replacement Leaf Springs For 2017 Keystone Bullet Premier Travel Trailer
Since you mentioned that you broke a leaf spring and not the axle, in order to determine which replacement leaf springs you'll need for your 2017 Keystone Bullet Premier Ultra Lite Travel Trailer you will need to measure your current springs from the centers of one spring eye to the other. This distance is going to determine which springs will fit as a replacement. Since we know you have a 3500-lb axle, we can narrow it down a bit. If your old springs measure roughly 23-1/8" long from...

  • Shackles on Leaf Springs Rubbing Frame of Trailer
Yes, this could be caused by worn out leaf springs on your trailer. Sometimes you'll see this caused by using shackles that are too long, but in this case it's probably safe to assume that this is being caused by worn out leaf springs. If you need help finding replacement springs, just let me know the length of your current springs and I can make a recommendation for your 3500-lb axles. To measure your springs, measure from the center of one eye to the center of the other.

  • Replacement Leaf Spring Recommendation for a 2012 Coachmen Freedom Express Travel Trailer
I'd be more than happy to help you find some replacement leaf springs for your trailer! First thing's first though, I'll need you to take the load off of your current leaf springs by raising the frame of your trailer so there isn't a load on the springs (or at least on one side) and then measuring from center-eye to center-eye so I know the correct length to look for. Leaf springs will flatten out over time so if your springs truly are 10 years old then getting replacement springs with...

  • How Are Trailer Leaf Springs Weight Capacities Rated
There is usually two capacities listed on a leaf spring. The spring capacity and the axle capacity. For the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring # e54SR that you referenced it has a spring capacity of 1,750 lbs meaning that the individual spring can handle 1,750 lbs. The axle capacity is 3,500 lbs meaning that when you use two springs the combined capacity is 3,500 lbs. I attached an FAQ article on trailer suspension for you to check out also.

  • How to Raise the Height of a 5th Wheel Trailer Without Flipping the Axles
To gain height without flipping your axles I recommend doing 2 things: replacing your leaf springs with ones that have more leafs and changing out your hangers for taller ones. You can probably get away with just swapping out your hangers but unless you only have something like 2 or 3 leaf springs and you want to gain height you would have to go with at least 4 or 5 leafs to gain enough height. When replacing leaf springs be sure to choose new ones that have a weight rating that matches...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for Cargo Mate Enclosed Trailer
It is certainly possible that the springs have already worn out. One way or another, the leaf springs on your Cargo Mate enclosed trailer definitely should not be flat. Assuming you have the original hangers and shackle strap on the trailer and they were not replaced along with the leaf springs, I would say the worn out leaf springs are the reason you have lost the clearance with your axle. From what I have found, it looks like your trailer has a 3,500 lb axle. I recommend verifying this...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for a 2013 Fleetwood Express
For your 2013 Fleetwood Express, the correct replacement is most likely the 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring part # e54SR. In order to confirm this you will need to take a quick measurement of the leaf spring you have now. It should be around 26" long (loaded) from the center of each eyelet and if that is the case then the above is what you need. The leaf springs on a trailer will lengthen over time as they wear which is why the replacements will be shorter than what you have now. The pair of...

  • Replacement Leaf Springs for Calkins Boat Trailer with 3500-lbs Axles
I'm not seeing any matches with a CW1820 on that trailer, but it sounds like your trailer has a 3500-lbs axle capacity. You will need to measure your existing leaf springs and then choose the closest match in length; your worn out springs will be a bit longer than a new spring, so you'll typically you'll go down by about 1/2" to find the closest match. For 3500-lbs axles, something like the # e54SR is 25-1/8" long and might be a good option, but there are also a 23-1/8" spring # e59SR...

  • What is Wrong with My Trailer Suspension? Why Have I Changed my Bearings 5 Times in 8 Months?
Hello Dalton, First off, thanks for the detailed write-up. No need to apologize, it's clear you've put a ton of time into this and you're dealing with a frustrating situation that honestly shouldn't be happening with a brand-new trailer. From what you described, it sounds like the root of your issues goes back to the trailer’s suspension geometry being off from the start. That bouncing or “one-wheel-at-a-time” hop around 35 mph really does sound like a harmonic issue, and likely the result...

  • Replacing 26" Leaf Springs on Square 3,500 Pound Axles
Hey Dan, We have a few 26" trailer leaf springs available, but none that match the 3,500 pound rating you're needing. If your existing leaf springs are pretty old, it's very possible they stretched a bit over time, meaning you actually need a shorter set like the 25-1/8" 4-Leaf # e54SR as a new replacement. Also make sure you're measuring from the center of one "eye" to the other with the trailer lifted so it's not under load. And just a note, the fact that it's a 4-Leaf isn't really...

  • Replacement Double Eye Spring Recommendation for 1995 EZ Loader Trailer with 3,650 lb Axle
Thank you for the information. As long as the spring is of the correct weight rating and size, the number of leaves in a spring (spring pack thickness) isn't important. This is especially true because all springs should be replaced at the same time to maintain even support from the trailer. A close option is the 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long, part # e57SR. This spring has just a slightly higher capacity, at 2,000 lbs, so it may stiffen up your ride...

  • What Is The Purpose Of Steel band On Leaf Springs
The leaf springs are normally installed with the band forward of the axle, but it is not something that has to be done that way. The steel band is called the rebound clip. Their main purpose is to help keep the main leaf from breaking on a rebound. When the weight of a vehicle or trailer is on the spring, all of the leaves work together to support the spring above them. If the wheel drops for any reason the total weight of the axle falls on the main leaf if there are no rebound clips....

Bumping up an extra 500 lbs per spring is definitely going to help with the longevity of your suspension.
