Re-Securing Sensor On Factory Hitch for 2017 Mazda CX-9 with Curt Class III
Published 04/05/2022 >
Question:
There is a an electrical device on the factory receiver hitch I cant identify. Its a rectangle 1/2 inch around and a few inches long, with two wires run to it. The wiring is separate from the 4 wire trailer plug. Its attached with two bolts under the receiver where the receiver is welded to the cross bar. Im attaching a picture looking across the bottom of the receiver you can see the hitch pin at the sensor and the bottom of the hitch crossbar. The sensor is circled in red, the wires leading too it have a blue arrow pointing to them. trying to make this as clear as I can The only thing I can think it might be is a backup sensor in addition to the ones on the bumper. I dont see tabs on the Curt hitch to move it to, so I need to know what it is as I need a solution for it if its needed.

I can't be certain as to what the sensor is but I have heard before that there are studs on the body you can re-attach it to which is used on models without the factory hitch. You can then proceed with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C13284.
