Question:
I need help on ing the correct class 3 hitch and a WDS with sway control needed to safely tow a 4190lbs min. - 5500lbs max RV. GMC states I can’t have trailer wt. over 7200lbs. which I won’t have. The GVWR is 6400lbs. GMC max GCWR is 12,000lbs. I know the answer to what correct system I need is in the numbers but I don’t want to purchase what I don’t need. This is your area of knowledge and expertise and not mine. Thanks for your help in this decision with what to purchase.

I would be happy to help you set your 2005 GMC Sierra up to tow your trailer. With that low of a towing capacity I can safely assume you have a 1500. That is what my recommendations are going to be based on. Along with a weight distribution system you're going to need a hitch and a brake controller as well. That heavy of a trailer will require brakes.
For your hitch you will want the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver item # e98849. This is a class III hitch with a 2" receiver. It is custom fit and will bolt directly to your Sierra with included hardware. It has a Maximum gross trailer weight of 6,000 lbs and a maximum GTW when used with a weight distribution of 10,000 lbs. It has a maximum tongue weight of 600 lbs which increases to 1,000 lbs when used with a weight distribution.
You will want to focus more on your tongue or hitch weight when considering which weight distribution system to use. This is typically 10-15% of your gross trailer weight depending on how you load your trailer. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control item # EQ37060ET would be a great system for your setup if your trailer is under 6,000 lbs and your tongue weight is between 200 lbs - 600 lbs. I have linked a review video.
