What All Is Needed To Add Brakes To A 2017 NuCamp T@g Trailer

I would like to install trailer brakes on my 2017 Nucamp Tag tear trailer. I would like to use Dexter brake products, but I am not sure of all the items needed. Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you

There should be no issue adding brakes to your 2017 NuCamp T@G, but you will need to verify a few things, like weight capacities, wheel bolt pattern, and bearings, to make sure they will fit properly. With that being said, a few of these will be examples and again, will need to be verified before ordering. I did also include an article we have on adding brakes to a trailer for reference.
To start with, you will need to contact NuCamp with your VIN to see if they can tell you your bearing numbers and wheel bolt pattern. If for some reason they cannot tell you what these are, you will need to pull one of the hubs off. This will allow access to the inner and outer bearings. As an example, the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 2,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles # 8-257-5UC3-EZ will use the # L44649 bearing on both the inner and outer locations. This will also use the 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern. I included an article on how to measure this as well.
Next will be the brakes. The Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 7" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies # 23-47-48 are designed for 2,000 pound axles and will require something to attach to on the axle. Not all axles of this size are equipped for brakes, so you may need to add the Brake Mounting Flange for 1-3/4" Round Trailer Axles # 4-34. This will need to be welded on and will need to have your axle diameter verified to make sure it will fit properly. If you already have a flange though, you can skip that part.
Next is getting everything wired. You will need various lengths of wires and butt connectors to get everything connected, so I am just including the basic parts needed. First will be the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit # 20400. This allows the trailer to stop if for some reason the trailer ever becomes disengaged from the vehicle while towing and is required by law in most states for trailers that are equipped with electric brakes. To get this and the brakes all wired up, I highly recommend the Epicord 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box # 277-000141. This makes all the connections significantly easier and has the 7 Way plug included.
This will complete the trailer side, but now there will be a few parts needed on the vehicle to get the brakes working.
First will be a 7 Way plug, if you do not already have one. If you do not, the 7-Way RV Upgrade Kit for Trailer Brake Controller Installation # ETBC7L will piggyback off an existing 4 Flat and will get all the power needed to run the Curt Echo # C51180. This is a wireless controller that connects to a smartphone, but the Manual Override Button # C83HR will negate the need for said phone after the initial set up. This is a very easy to use controller and is highly recommended.
If any of the above parts or measurements do not match what you have, let me know and I can find some better options for you.
