Question:

is this baseplate compatible with a roadmaster sterling towbar, and the 2006 honda element.? also out of curiosity, what is different in the ex model that restricts it from using the baseplate?

The Roadmaster XL base plates, # 1541-1, are compatible with a 2006 Honda Element (not EX-P models) and the Sterling tow bar. The EX-P models just have a different design and require their own style base plates to fit.

So after base plates and the tow bar, the next item you will need is safety cables if you do not already have some (the Sterling tow bar should have come with some). I recommend using straight cables # RM-645 to fit in the channels in the tow bar.

Next you will need a lighting solution. I recommend kit # 154-792-118158. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you to view.

And finally, most states now require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. The easiest to set up and use is the Even Brake, # RM-9400, proportional system and 12 volt oulet # RM-9332. It applies the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
