Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Blue Ox 7-foot safety cables. These come as a quantity of two and offer and 10,000lb-per-cable weight rating. Part number is BX88197. These heavy duty safety cables are going to be be perfect solution for replacing old, worn out our even damaged safety cables. We have aircraft grade cable that's going to run through the center. That's what gives us that great 10,000lb-per-cable capacity, and then you'll see a nice rubberized coating over the cable.

That's going to prevent any scratching or abrasion of our tow bar. Got nice, wide hooks, should fit around any type of hitch you might have and any kind of safety chain connection you might have on your tow bar, and you'll see the keepers are going to keep them in place. That's spring loaded there. Where once it's in place, we won't have to worry about it coming off. You see we'll just connect that around our hitch. We like to cross them.

Bring it back, connect it there. You'll see that coiled design. That's going to allow us to extend these out to seven feet in total length, but it's going to coil up to keep it up off the ground so we can run them underneath our tow bar without having to worry about them hanging up or dragging them on the ground. Other side clipped in here. Now, we'll have plenty of room on the top where we can run our electrical coils, our air line or whatever other cables back to the vehicle that we need to without our safety cable interfering, and that's going to complete our look at the Blue Ox 7-foot safety cables with 10,000lb-per-cable weight rating.

Part number is BX88197.

On one occasion I forgot to hook one cable and I dragged it a few miles before someone let me know. I ordered replacement cables immediately and had them shipped out to our next destination two days out and continued the trip with our damaged but still functional cable. The replacements arrived the same day I did! I really appreciate the great customer service.

by:

This among other items ordered from etrailer.com for my Class A motorhome arrived according to my best expectations. Will certainly be ordering from them again in the future and I look forward to doing so. Thank You to the wonderful folks at trailer.com

by:

Both the Safety Cables and Dual Hitch Receiver are excellent quality (vary well made). I plan on using the hitch so that I can carry my bikes on the back of the motor home while still towing a car.

by:

Got the order in 2 working days great service. Best service I have got on line thanks

by:

What a great company !!! I ordered Blue Ox 7' safety cables (10,000 lbs.) and received the cables very quickly via their shipping policy. The cables were priced very well, and I'm pretty happy...all in all, it was great doing business with etrailer and I will be a repeat customer.

by:

They work great, but I probably should have ordered the smaller size. They are a little tough to unhook after towing. They fit very snug on the base plate kit for my 1/2 Silverado. Most of the time I need to use a mallet to re-position them before I can remove them. So the problem is on me, not the product.

by:

I had damaged my first set of Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables so these were to replace my 1st set. I'm very satisfied with them and the service and support from etrailer

by:

Safety cables worked great. Towed my suburban behind our RV to Alaska and back last summer. It was reassuring to know I had cables that would control the suburban should something come disconnected.

by:

This is my first order from ETRAILER I was very happy with my salesperson, KatieD. She made sure I was getting the right parts. I bought a Blueox base plate ,safety cables, and wireless tow lights. Katie followed on the order and confirmed the delivery. The lights are on back order , KatieD said she will let me know of the ship date.

by:

These cables were just what I needed. The original cables that come with the Blue Ox Ascent tow bar won't work with a Rock Hard 4x4 bumper clevis. Shipping was superfast the second time around using UPS. The USPS lost the first package; and after a 15-day delay was reshipped and received in 3 days. GREAT job

by:

Excellent quality product, quick shipping. Thank you!

by:

These are very nice cables, built very well. Glad I purchased them.

by:

on time delivery!

by:

These are very beefy and well put together! I have no reservations about this purchase.

by:

Easy ordering process, good communication and delivered when promised. All good! Will definitely order again!

by:

Fast service and delivery.

by:

Called an Virginia hooked me up with right safety chains to tow with. I was very pleased with the service and ship time.

Glad that Virginia for you all set with new chains, Dannie!

by:

Very satisfied with cables and etrailer
for my application it would be nice if they were about a foot longer
Not a problem but they are stretched a bit tighter than I would like to see which makes them a little hard to hook up to the jeep when towing behind the rv
Etrailer is always top notch

by:

exactly what I ordered and on time.

by:

My last set of cables saved my jeep and my bacon when the drop hitch failed.

by:

Arrived very timely in usable condition.

by:

I purchased this as part of a package which included; Hitch and wiring for my 2022 Equinox, Base plate, Tow Bar, brake System and connecting air hose, break away cables, LED tow lights with wiring harness, and a trickle charger to keep the Equinox battery from going dead while I was towing it behind my class A RV.
I had etrailer do the install of all the components on my car and RV. All the workmanship was excellent and done in the amount of time they said it would take. Also because they did not have a video of this equipment being put on this year and model vehicle, I gave them permission to make a video(which added a extra day and a half to the install)and the installation was free. Everything has worked perfectly and I couldn't be happier. Etrailer is my go to for anything towing and also RV parts.

  • Flat Tow Setup for 2022 Jeep Gladiator Behind a Class A RV
Hi Ripu, to flat tow your 2022 Jeep Gladiator behind your 2021 Thor Windsport, you’ll need a base plate, tow bar, safety cables, wiring for lights, and a supplemental braking system. A really solid setup starts with the etrailer Invisible Base Plate Kit part # e98948, there’s no bulky crossbar or brackets left hanging out up front, and the attachment tabs stay with the tow bar instead of sticking out from the bumper for a nice clean look. For the tow bar, etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow 2022 Jeep Wrangler
Hey Tom! Since you already have your tow bar, the base plate # BX1139, safety cables # BX88197, and brake system # DM26VR cover the majority of what remains. You will also need tow bar wiring, and more than likely a high-low adapter to complete your setup. If your Wrangler does not have ParkSense I recommend the Roadmaster # RM-15267. If you do have ParkSense you need # RM63MR with the smart diodes instead. I also recommend adding a charge line kit # RM-156-25. I attached a help article...

First, before flat towing your 2011 Mini Cooper, be sure the tires are filled to the recommended psi and in good condition. More importantly, be certain your steering column is not locked; if your tires are unable to turn they would wear out quickly. If you think your safety cables may be an issue, and yours are shorter than 7', an option would be the Blue Ox Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables # BX88197. Hey Randy. Blue Ox and Roadmaster's tow bars and baseplates are pretty comparable but Roadmaster's wiring options are far superior. Please note that the you can only flat tow your Nautilus if it has the 2.7L V6 engine. To flat tow your 2023 Lincoln Nautilus I recommend the following parts from both Roadmaster and Blue Ox: Tow Bar and Safety Cables - Blue Ox Avail Non-Binding Tow Bar item # BLU28QV and item # BX88197 Base Plate Kit - Blue Ox Base Plate Kit item # BX2680 Wiring Harness...

It sounds like you have a Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 that came with your Class A motorhome. The Falcon 2 is rated up to 6,000 pounds so you'll want to make sure your Ram doesn't exceed that. Depending on how its equipped it very well may. Also, make sure your RV is rated high enough to tow the Ram. What you need on your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 is a base plate kit that will connect to the tow bar. If your truck is a MegaCab # 277-1A will work for you and if you the truck isn't a MegaCab...

I do have a solution for you but Roadmaster adapter # RM-035 fits D-ring mounting holes that are 7/8 inch or 1 inch in diameter that have taps that are 3/4 inches thick as opposed to holes that are 3/4 inches in diameter so they would not work. There isn't an adapter that would work with 3/4 inch diameter holes.
