Question:
Hello, I hope you can help me. I am trying to set up my 2011 Jeep Liberty to be towed behind my 2005 43foot Newmar Mountain Aire diesel motorhome. I have never done this before. I want it to be easy and simple to both install and use. The previous owner of my motorhome included in the deal his old Roadmaster Falcon tow bar, safety cables, and his old Brake Buddy classic braking system. I intend to use both of them. If I may I have a few questions for you, as I am somewhat confused on a few things. 1- I know I need a baseplate. Whats the difference between those with a crossbar and those without. Id like to be simple safe and easy. Do I need a crossbar baseplate? What baseplate do you recommend? 2- I need a wiring kit. Again, simple to install, safe, and easy to use. I would like to spend as little as possible while getting the above parameters met. What wiring kit would you recommend? Are they hard to put in? I am very mechanically inclined, but electrical is not my strong point. 3- I need the main electrical cable going from the coach to the Jeep. Any and all adapters, brackets, etc. What do I need? 4- If I read correctly I need to tow with the battery disconnected? My plan was to use a dis-connectable battery terminal that you unscrew the knob which leaves the terminal connected to the battery but mechanically disconnects it from the battery cable attached to it. I would then connect any power needed to the braking system, etc directly to the terminal screw, leaving power there while no power is on the rest of the car. Does that sound correct? 5- I would need to somehow keep the Jeep battery charged while driving the coach, no? Whats the most cost effective way to do that? Id rather not buy an expensive kit if somehow running a simple wire will do. Thanks!

In order to use a Roadmaster Falcon Tow Bar on a 2011 Jeep Liberty (Without Rockguard or Skid Plate) you'll have to go with the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit part # 521433-1 which requires the Quick Disconnect Crossbar Assembly part # 910021-00 if you don't already have it as that's the only option.
In regards to a flat-tow wiring harness, it's hard to make a case against the Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit part # HM56204 since it's both plug-in-play and cost effective. It also comes with the umbilical that connects the towed vehicle to the motorhome.
In regards to disconnecting the battery, this will need to be done and a great cost effective option for this is the Deka Lead Quick-Disconnect Battery Terminal part # DW05312. The braking system would still remain functional if wired correctly.
I don't show a battery charge line as a requirement but we do offer the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles part # RM-156-25 which is again cost effective or you could make your own kit.
