What does the spaninch mean on a locking hitch pin? Is it the outside with of the receiver? Thanks.

The span of a locking hitch pin like the Blue Ox # BX8858 means the amount of space that can fit between the two walls of the hitch receiver- so yes, basically the distance from the outside wall of one side of the receiver to the other. We have noticed that certain Toyota factory hitches have a thicker walls on their receivers that measure 2-7/8" instead of just under 2-3/4" so if you've got a Toyota truck with a factory receiver you would need to use a locking hitch pin like the # BX88212 that has a 4-3/8" span.

The Blue Ox #BX88177 consists of two 1/2 inch diameter and 2 5/8 inch diameter pins. They are only able to have the 4 keyed alike. The measurement is 4-3/8 inches between the opening like #BX88212 which cannot be keyed alike . The only option to get…
