Question:
My Jeep has a hitch and the flat 4 wiring Installed. I was wonder what I would need to tow a trailer that has trailer brake? My Jeep is the base model 3.7l engine. I know I’ll need a brake controller and I’m assuming I’ll need a 7 prong connector. Thanks for the help.

Yes, you are correct that you will need a 7-way connector and brake controller to tow a trailer that has electric brakes. If your 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee happens to have the factory towing package, you can use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C55774 which plugs into the round OEM connector on your Jeep. The 4-way may be plugged into this OEM port and you will need to plug it. I have attached a photo of what the plug looks like.
I recommend to use the Curt Echo part # C51180 which plugs in line with the 7-way plug and allows you to control the brake settings with your Apple smart phone with operating system Apple: 8.0- newer or an Android with an operating system 4.4 and newer. This Curt Echo is the easiest way to install the brake controller on the Jeep because it only requires a 7-Way plug with an active 12V circuit.
If your Jeep does not have the factory tow package with the round OEM connector to plug the 7-Way into you will need part # ETBC7L which comes with the components needed to install a 7-Way plug and use the Curt Echo. Your existing 4-way will plug into the pigtail coming off the 7-way plug in the kit and the black wire needs to be extended to the Jeep's battery via the provided circuit breaker. Then ground the white wire from the plug.
