Installing Trailer Wiring Harness on 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser

Updated 08/26/2019 | Published 08/23/2019

Question:

I have a 2000 Toyota Land cruiser 100 series and purchased this aftermarket converter. I know the factory converter box is still present behind the drivers side taillight. If I plug the aftermarket unit into the wiring harness does it bypass the factory converter it do I need to disconnect the factory converter?

I couldn't find any information regarding a factory tow package for your 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser that would have included a converter for a trailer wiring harness. I think what your Land Cruiser is equipped with is a universal harness like the Tekonsha Hardwire Kit # 119178KIT that a previous owner installed. This harness splices into the tail light wiring of the vehicle and the needed converter does get mounted behind the driver side tail light assembly.

Theoretically the Tekonsha T-One Wiring Harness w/ Converter # C55365 that you referenced would bypass this harness/converter unit since it plugs into the vehicle's tow package wiring (which is separate from the tail light wiring) but I also don't show this particular harness as a fit for your 2000 model Land Cruiser. The harness is designed for the Land Cruisers up through the 1999 model year.

The only options we have available for your 2000 Land Cruiser are the universal hardwire kits like the Tekonsha # 119178KIT already mentioned. If your vehicle is equipped with the factory port at the rear near the spare tire to which the T-Connector # C55365 plugs in, then it may work.

Otherwise you will need to replace your current harness with the universal Tekonsha # 119178KIT. I have attached a couple installation videos that you may also find helpful.
