I took a look at the online owner's manual of a 2016 Chevy Silverado 2500 and there was no listing of a trailer brake relay for this truck. The trailer brake fuse is fuse number 1 in the engine compartment fuse block so you may want to take a look at that first. There was a relay for the trailer parking lamps, which was relay 63 in the instrument panel fuse block access door on the passenger side edge of the instrument panel.
You can find this on page 402 and 403 of the online manual; I recommend verifying it in your version of the manual and it would also be a good idea to take the truck to the dealer if the warning lamps continue and does not fix your issue.
It sounds like you have the OEM brake controller in your truck and while these are adequate, aftermarket brake controllers are much better, designed by companies whose job it is to perfect brake controllers as opposed to auto manufacturers.
I recommend checking out the Curt Echo Mobile Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 because it is an easy-to-use brake controller that simply plugs into the 7-way on the back of your '16 Silverado 2500. There is no other wiring needed and the only other thing you would need in order to use it is a smartphone. Once you download the Echo's app you will use that to set up the brake controller and be on your way.
I have added links to some video reviews of this controller for you to check out as well.
