Question:
What is required to tow a 2011 ford edge awd sel model behind a rv Manual says ok to do, just start before towing and about every 3 hours Does anything have to be done to oil the transmission or is it fine the way it is? Some are saying to hook up a charge line to the battery, and others say to disconnect the negative side of the battery Whats the best and most convenient but also safest way Thanks

As you stated your 2011 Ford Edge AWD is towable as is with a restricted speed recommendation of 65 mph max. You will want to start your vehicle and let it run for 5 minutes at the beginning of each trip and again every 3-6 hours of travel. This will allow the fluids to circulate as needed for safe towing.
For your system, I don't know if you already have any of the products so I'll give you my recommendations for a complete system. The Demco Tabless Base Plate Kit # DM9519210 is a custom fit for your vehicle and then you can use the Demco Commander ii Non-Binding Tow Bar - Victory Series - RV Mount - 2" Hitch - 6,000 lbs # DM9511012. This tow bar is really nice for a couple of reasons. First, it allows you to move the arms and holds them in place so you don't have to struggle with them to fit your baseplates. Second, there is an integrated high-low adapter that saves you in most situations from purchasing another component. This tow bar comes with the safety cables as well.
Then for your wiring I recommend the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 which will utilize your factory wiring while protecting it from overload. It also provides you the connection to add the 12V battery charge line # RM-156-25 to maintain your vehicle battery while towing. There is no need to disconnect a battery when using this kit and you definitely should not do that as your supplemental braking system likely needs power. For that system, I recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System - Proportional # SM99251 which once installed becomes a simple plug and play system that only requires a flip of a switch. It is a favorite with customers and our installation team.
Finally, you will also need the # RM-88400 relay to prevent the towed vehicle's brake signal from overriding the turn signal from the RV when applying the brakes during a turn. The combination of these parts will give you an excellent system that I'm sure you'll be pleased with.
Let me know if you have any further questions as I know this is a lot of information.
