Best 235/80-16 Tires for a 24 Foot Long Gooseneck Trailer

Question:

I would like to get a better tire than what is stock on a new trailer as mentioned above. I will be hauling up to a 8300# truck on it. They said they could upgrade to a ST235/80R 16 G rated tire. That sounds good at first glance to me. But, my friend told me about Hankooks steel trailer tire, the 7.50 R16 F19 14 ply trailer tire, and how he has had zero blowouts, etc since going to them. However, I will be towing a lot less than he does. What do you all think? Thanks, p.s. I am a customer.

I would love to help but I cannot exactly comment on the quality of a product we do not sell which will be the case for Hankook Tires. If I were to comment then I would be doing you a disservice as we don't have any experience or feedback from them to formulate an educated opinion on. However, I can tell you that a comparable brand we carry Tamarack has an excellent option in the Tamarack ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire part # LHCK401. This has a load range E rating which is 3,520 lbs per tire and it also has an exceptional 5-year warranty.

If you were to switch to a 7.50-16 tire then you would actually be giving up some sidewall and adding some height. This is going to give you less grip on the road as well as create a potential for clearance issues. It is always best to stick with the same tire size that the trailer is equipped with from the OEM.
