Looking For Replacement Door Latch For 1999 4 Star Horse Trailer

Updated 02/12/2026 | Published 02/06/2026

Question:

I need some help choosing the right part. I have a door latch on the door of a weekender on a 99 4 star horse trailer that needs replaced. I’m having the hardest time finding a replacement latch as this particular latch is no longer made. The original was a Bergman style door latch, my measurements have it at 5 1/4 height and 5 5/8 or close to it wide. The thickness of the trailer is about 1 1/2 inches thick. Any help appreciated! The Vin for the trailer is 4FKWG272x0014271

Hi Tracy, thanks for reaching out. If the measurements you provided (about 5-1/4" tall by 5-5/8" wide) are the cutout size, the closest option we have is the Bauer Products Motorhome Door Lock # BA64FR. That lock is designed for a 5-1/4" x 4-1/2" cutout, so it can work, but it would likely require some minor modification to the opening to get a proper fit. Unfortunately, since the Bergman-style latch is discontinued, there isn’t a true direct replacement available anymore.

Before ordering anything, I’d want to double-check whether those dimensions are the actual cutout or the outside face of the latch, since that makes a big difference.

This replacement lock worked great on our 2007 29' Sunseeker.

Tracy, we were on a trip out west when ours broke. etrailer shipped the new lock. It doesn't look like the original lock and it was a weekend...luckily there was someone in camp that had replaced theirs. Easy to install, works well and it is just a little different so you will see paint lines.
