Clearance Needed for the Maxxis ST235/80R16 Radial Tire w/ 16" Eagle Aluminum Wheel

Updated 12/29/2025 | Published 11/29/2025

Question:

Hello, I am currently having my fifth repaired due to recent tire failure as well as needing to replace a hard to find wheel. From the beginning, I’ve wanted to upgrade wheel/tire package from 15s to 16s and these unfortunate circumstances have presented the opportunity. I’m looking at a set of four wheels, I like the mostly black, chrome accent as that is similar to what the unit has now. Along with the shop, we have measured clearances to ensure 16’s and of course a larger tire will have ample room. 1 Can you help ensure me that this wheel size upgrade is ok 2 Is there a wheel/ Goodyear Endurance tire package available? Thanks

Hey Scott. Not sure what tire size you currently have on your trailer but the Maxxis ST235/80R16 Radial Tire w/ 16" Eagle Aluminum Wheel item # MXS87FR measures 30.8" in diameter and is 9.25" wide. You'll need at minimum 2" of clearance between the top of your tire and the bottom of your trailer and the same distance from the side wall to your frame.

The Maxxis item # MXS87FR is not available with a Goodyear Endurance tire. None of our Goodyear Endurance wheel/tire combos come in a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. Only 8 on 6-1/2 like item # GY47QB.

What size tire are you currently running on your 5th wheel trailer?

Hey Scott, how did things go with the 16-inch wheel and tire upgrade on your fifth wheel? Did the Maxxis setup end up fitting well with your measured clearances? Your update could make it easier for others planning a similar upgrade.
