What are the least expensive parts that I would need to flat tow a 2007 Ford Explorer?

In order to flat tow your 2007 Ford Explorer behind an RV you will need a base plate kit, a tow bar, safety cables, a lighting solution, and a supplemental braking system.

The most economical base plate kit we have available for your Explorer is the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit # 4405-1. This is custom-fit for the vehicle and is needed to provide attachment points for the tow bar you use. I have attached an installation video that you can use for reference.

Then for a compatible tow bar you can go with the Roadmaster Stowmaster # RM-501, which will attach to a 2 inch hitch ball on the RV and has a 6,000 pound weight capacity. For safety cables the Roadmaster # RM-643 will work perfectly.

For an economical lighting solution I really like the Optronics Magnetic Tow Lights # TLL21RK. These magnetic lights will mount right onto your Explorer and plug into the RV to give you the needed signal lights for towing.

For a supplemental braking system I highly recommend the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO # SM99251. This is a proportional system that will activate the Explorer's brakes at the same time and with the same intensity that you apply to them in the RV. After the initial installation it will require very little attention as you transition back and forth between flat towing and everyday driving.

Lastly, you might also need a high-low adapter in order to keep the tow bar level.
