This heavy-duty tow bar is easy to maneuver, with a swivel head joint that lets the arms twist left and right. Non-binding levers let you disconnect at the campsite, even on rough terrain. Extra-long arms help you make tight turns.

The arms on the Avail are designed to make hooking up super easy. It gives you a lot of flexibility for getting your toad (towed vehicle) connected to your RV, without the need for your vehicle to be perfectly level or in the exact right spot.
Just slide the tow bar into your hitch and pin it in place, then extend the telescoping arms out until they reach the base plate tabs on your car. Then the swivel head joint allows the whole tow bar to twist left and right as you work to get the arms into place.
Once you're all hooked up, slowly pull forward and the self-aligning arms will fully extend and lock into the towing position. Double check that the arms are properly latched and you'll be ready to hit the road!
The Avail's arms are longer than average, giving you an above-average turning radius. You're going to be able to get around obstacles and make sharp turns with no worry of clipping the corner of your RV. Maneuver through gas stations and the campsite no problem.
Uneven ground and sharp angles can put the arms of the tow bar in a bind and make them stiff and immoveable. Once you get to your destination, the last thing you need is to spend several minutes wrestling, yanking, and kicking at them to get your car disconnected.
Instead, get out of a bind in one easy step. Simply press down on the Avail's non-binding levers to disengage the internal latches in the arms. This releases the pent-up pressure so you can unhook and get on with your adventure.
Blue Ox tow bars have triple-lug brackets to create an extra-secure connection to the base plate. It's a small detail with big benefits, as this crucial component of your flat tow setup is guaranteed to be tight and sturdy.
The Avail folds up to conveniently store on the back of your RV when you're not using it. After disconnecting the tow bar from your toad, push the arms of the tow bar together so that they are side by side. Push the tow bar up so the bracket on the shank holds it in place. The arms can then swing to the right or to the left, whichever side you want to store it on.
For added protection from the elements, slip the Blue Ox tow bar cover (BX88309 - sold separately) over the Avail when you're not using it.
Included with this tow bar are 2 coiled safety cables rated at 10,000 lbs. These cables, required by law, will keep your toad behind your RV if there's ever an accidental disconnect while towing. The steel hooks on each end of the cables connect to the toad's base plate and the RV's trailer hitch. The spring-loaded latches ensure that the hooks stay connected.
Flat towing can be a much more convenient way to take your car RVing with you than using a trailer or a tow dolly. It'll save you storage space both at home and at the campsite, and it takes less time and hassle to hook up.
To flat tow your vehicle, there are 5 basic components you're going to need: a tow bar, a base plate kit, a safety cable set, tow bar wiring, and a flat tow braking system.
For the RV | Between the RV and Towed Car | For the Towed Car |
---|---|---|
Hitch | Tow bar | Base plate |
Wiring plug | Safety cables | Braking system |
Wiring adapter cord | Wiring kit/diodes |
The custom-fit base plate installs on the frame of your toad so you can connect the car to your RV with a tow bar. Hook up safety cables between the vehicles to ensure that the toad does not separate from the motorhome if the tow bar becomes detached. Tow bar wiring syncs your vehicle's signal lights with your motorhome's tail lights, as required by law in most states. Finally, the flat tow braking system - also required in most states - activates the brakes in the toad when you hit the brakes in the RV, making for smoother, safer braking, and preventing wear on your motorhome.

Installation was a breeze and it is still working flawless a year later. Purchased the entire towing setup from e-trailer. Fast delivery within the week after the order. Great follow-up from staff.
The roads in this country have beaten and abused my RV and the Blue Ox towing my Ram Bighorn. I am surprised and delighted that it has held together. It has been easy to connect, and more importantly to disconnect, the truck! Thankyou Blueox for a quality product!

Blue Ox makes a quality product that is serving me well.
So easy a caveman can do it. Great material quality, etrailer was fast on shipping, and hd support ready if needed. I consider myself an intermediate mechanic sk I had no problems doing this by myself. Instructions were good, I modified to make some install details easier and emergency link better.
Thank you for having this tow bar available. Our 3 year old Blue Ox came apart from the base (early on) while on our 4.5 month trip. We were able to pick it up on our next stop so it involve driving our jeep and RV separately to 2 stops, but thankfully they were fairly short miles. It was a fairly simple transition to a bar for heavier capabilities- only the weight of it was a slight issue for us! Thanks
I brought this bar because I needed one that would spread enough for the blue ox tow kit on my Ford Maverick. Works great. If you flat tow a Maverick with all Blue Ox equipment you need this tow bar.
Quality towing set up. Quick and easy to hook and unhook.

Exellent tow bar.Makes hookup and unhooking a breeze.
The Avail Tow Bar and accessories work great with the base plate. Perfect combination.
Great product! Actually my second Blue Ox Avail. Replacing one with 85,000 trouble free towing miles.
Great product and great service, we pull a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited behind our truck camper.
It was a bit hard to get help with the installation, but after I got it in it's been great. Took a trip from Wisconsin to Washington DC and back and it all went smoothly.
Good service fast shipping great produc ts
A year later and several miles towing my jeep behind rv. Still as good as new, wouldn't change a thing.

Top of the line product. Easy setup and take down.
Built well, works great and after a year outside (covered when not in use), looks good. They are strong and reliable and have never felt like they would be a problem. I have never had them bind up, and unhooking is just as easy as hooking up. The only thing that happened was one of the Allen lock screws that hold the latching handle in came out. Put in a new one with lock-tite and all is good now.
I feel confident towing my Jeep with the Blue Ox Tow Bar.
Great tow bar. Easy to mount and hook up and tows true. Hook-up ends are changeable to fit your specific needs. Folds out of the way when you don't want to disconnect it. Very happy with it.
We had a towbar failure while on the road. Luckily it failed as we stopped at grocery store and not on the highway.
I was able to order a new Blue Ox 10k rated towbar and had it shipped to our next campground. We only had to drive two hours disconnected.
RV hitch rated for 8K, SUV is 5400 lbs + contents so a 10K rated towbar and cables gave us piece of mind of being the most robust component of our towing setup.
All parts fit exactly as they should and installation onto the tow vehicle and the towed vehicle was simple.
Great tow bar and exceptional customer service, 5 stars x2
Has worked perfectly for over 15,000 miles!
I lubricant the bushings with silicone spray about every 500 miles.
Simple hookup and disconnect , Highly recommend to everyone!
Easy to install, easy to hitch up. I feel very safe having this set up
As always everyone at etrailer are true professionals and a big shout out to Josh who is always there to answer questions. Thank you
