Question:

We bought a motor home 2018 Leprechaun and just had the base plate installed on our 2013 Honda Fit, the service dept said it would be fine to tow. Now my husband is finding negative info, and we’re worried!

I checked the owner's manual and you can flat tow your 2013 Honda Fit. The items needed to tow your Fit will include base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, wiring, a braking system, and maybe a high-low hitch adapter.

I know you already installed base plates so as long as they are a match for your Fit you will be fine. The base plate I would normally recommend is the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate, Item # 521190-1.

If you have Roadmaster base plates then I recommend the Roadmaster Sterling All Terrain, Item # RM-576, that also it includes safety cables. Let me know if something else and I can make a recommendation for them.

For lighting, I recommend the Roadmaster Diode Wiring Kit Item # RM-15267 that will use your vehicle's tail lights and also includes 7-wire to 6-wire coiled electrical cord. You will need to pull fuse(s) during towing. A possible option is a fuse bypass like Item # RM76511.

For brakes, I recommend the SMI Stay-In-Play Braking System, Item # SM99251, because it is a great proportional braking system that has a convenient one time set-up.

A high-low hitch adapter may also be needed to keep your vehicle fairly level while being flat towed. A "safe zone" of 3 inches above or 3 inches below level must be maintained while towing a vehicle. High-low adapters provide necessary rise or drop to get into the "safe zone".
