Question:
I have a 16 Ram 1500 RT that I want to tow a trailer with. Which hitch would be best?

I recommend always going for the highest rated hitch that is a confirmed fit. Since your max towing capacity is limited by the lowest rated item in your towing setup, it is much better for your 2016 Ram 1500's towing capacity to be the deciding factor instead of the trailer hitch receiver.
Because of this I recommend going with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15572 which is a Class V hitch with a 2 inch receiver. It has a Gross Towing Weight (GTW) of 15,000 lbs and a Tongue Weight (TW) of 1,500 lbs. When using a Weight Distribution (WD) system the GTW is increased to 16,000 lbs and the TW to 1,600 lbs.
You will also need a ball mount and a hitch ball. I have attached a link to an article on how to choose the correct ball mount as well as a link to our selection of ball mounts and hitch balls.
To take the guesswork out of what ball mount to get a lot of truck owner's like to use an adjustable ball mount like part # BWTS10040B. Not only does it take the guesswork out, but it also allows you to safely tow a variety of trailers without having to get a new ball mount.
To complete your setup you will need trailer hitch wiring. Since you do not have the tow package you will need to use the Tekonsha Upgraded Circuit Protected ModuLite with 4 Pole Harness and Hardwire Kit # C59496 which will give you a 4-Way flat connector. If you need a 7-Way installed you will need to us the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7.
I have attached some videos of these products being installed on various vehicles that you can use as a reference.
