I do have a potential solution for you, but a standard trailer spindle like the 2,500 pound # TRU27FR you referenced should not be attached directly to the frame. This would eliminate any kind of suspension system so the trailer's ride would be extremely rough, possibly to the point of damaging the spindle or wheel/hub assemblies.

Standard trailer spindles like this also just aren't designed to be used in this manner, so it's not something that has been tested in an any way by the manufacturer. The mounting plate might not be able to hold up to the additional torque/movement it would undergo when welded or bolted to the frame when compared to an axle (which would itself be suspended by some kind of leaf spring setup for proper travel).

With all of that being said, I do have a really good option for you that would give you the increased ground clearance you're looking for and should also eliminate the need for a thru-axle with the Timbren Axle-Less Systems. For a 2,200 pound setup that will work great I recommend looking at the Timbren # ASR1THDS03.

Like you were originally wanting, these spindle assemblies will be bolted directly to the frame of your trailer. The difference is that each unit features independent suspension components with AEON progressive-rate springs that absorb that road shock, essentially taking the place of standard leaf springs. This particular system has a 4" lift on the spindle, providing you with increased ground clearance.
