Hello, I have a Dexter axle marked 2-132, which I believe to be a 3,500 lb axle. I would like to use 6 on 5.5 wheels with it. Which would be the correct hub and drum assembly to use? When going from an idler hub, AKIHUB-655-35-EZ-K, to a hub and drum assembly, AKHD-655-35-EZ-K, does the location of the hub face, where the wheel mounts, change - and if so, what is the differential? The etrailer.com Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly # AKHD-655-35-EZ-K referenced in your question is the correct replacement for the idler hub # AKIHUB-655-35-EZ-K. The Hub and Drum Assembly has a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern and is designed for 3,500 pound E-Z Lube trailer axles with #84 spindles.
An idler hub and a hub and drum assembly are both going to mount onto the spindle the same way. There will not be any difference in the location, either further out or in, of where the wheel will mount between the two setups.
If you are wanting to add electric brakes to your trailer, I recommend looking at self-adjusting assemblies such as the etrailer.com # AKEBRK-35L-SA for Left Hand and # AKEBRK-35R-SA for Right Hand. After an initial adjustment, these brake types will not require periodic manual adjustments like a standard brake. These are 10 inch brakes designed for 3,500 pound axles and wheel sizes between 13 inches and 15 inches. They have a 4 bolt mounting flange pattern.
