Can a 225/75/r15 tire work on a 220/70r15 rim

Yes, if you had a rim that previously had a 220/70R15 tire installed on it a size ST225/75R15 would fit and replace it easily. The sizes are incredibly close. Hopefully the rim you have is a trailer rim and not one designed for a passenger vehicle. The reason I mention that is the tire size you listed isn't a standard trailer tire size.
The part # AM10256 would work well for you.
