The Dometic RV Water Heater - Gas - Automatic Pilot - 12 Volt - 8,800 Btu - 6 Gal Tank Item AT96121 is the direct replacement for the GC6AA-10E. Unfortunately it is out of stock with no expected restock date.

Instead I recommend the Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater - Gas - Automatic Pilot - 60,000 BTU - 16" x 16" Door Item # FR98SR. Its dimensions are 19-3/16" deep x 12-5/8" tall x 12-13/16" wide. It provides 19+ gallons of hot water per hour and has a heating capacity of 13,000 to 60,000 BTU's for on demand hot water. The Vortex system mixes hot and cold water to eliminate fluctuations and reduce the risk of hot water scalding and the dual temperature sensors automatically shut power off if the water temperature exceeds a safe limit. You'll be much happier with the performance you receive from the tankless versus the tank water heaters and face less technical issues.

Thank you, Kevin. I have a 2023 GD Reflection 150 series with a Furrion tankless water heater. I boondock a lot. The water heater wastes about a quart or more water before getting hot. That is too much water loss. What about the Truma tankless water heater with the hot water reserve?

@Patrick The reason you're having to waste water waiting for it to heat up is because the pipes in the trailer are pressurized with water and aren't insulated to maintain the heat. The hot water has to work it's way through the pipes and push the cold water out before you'll start getting hot water. This would be an issue regardless of the water heater you have and could only be solved by insulating the pipes and moving the point of use close to the water heater, which typically isn't feasible.

I know for home tankless tanks, it requires a much higher amps to operate. How does that work in the RV scenario?

@JamesY The Furrion RV Tankless Water Heater # FR98SR really only uses electricity for it's computer functions and not for heating the water so it pulls less than 3 amps when in use. Other systems could differ but for the most part in the RV industry the power is really coming from burning propane.

@KevinC Got it! I couldnt find a way to submit my own question, but I'm still interested in having a water heater that is both electric/gas like our old Atwood GC6AA-10E. Does anyone make an electric/gas combo that will fit in the old atwood spot?

@JamesY If you're saying you want an electric heating option then Dometic does still offer some models with an electric heating element that also use propane. You'll just want to reach out to them directly since we don't currently offer these models.

The rough opening for my existing gc6aa-10e 6gal seems much larger than the cut out recommended for the furrion. will it still work?

@Scott Yes, as technology has advanced manufacturers have shrunk the size of their water heaters down. You'll just need to frame in the opening a bit to give the new unit something to screw into. You'll just want to pick a unit with a large enough access door to cover the opening. We offer the following door sizes: 16" x 16" Door # FR98SR 16" x 18" Door # FR48SR 18" x 18" Door # FR68SR You'll want to use some butyl tape # AL28FJ on the mounting flanges of both the unit and access door as well as some sealant # 344270341437-1 around the outer edge of the access door to prevent any water from leaking in.

@Dd The Furrion # FR98SR mentioned above is not a direct replacement for the Atwood unit. The tankless water heaters are generally smaller than the older tanked units. In most cases the space will need to be modified to accommodate a tankless heater. Most people will build out the inside of the cutout to properly house the unit.
