Best fit for my Highlander 2022
We mounted this on our Toyota Highlander to put a tray on it for sandy beach equipment. I had to cut minimal amounts of the plastic undercarriage of the car to install it. It would have been easier to install if I had a car lift, but I was able to install it by myself lying on the ground. I used some 4x4s and 2x2s to prop up the hitch so It was close to the car bottom to get the bolts started. The Highlander already had pre threaded holes for the hitch bolts to attach.
I have a Toyota Highlander platinum hybrid 2024, the hitch fitted perfectly, however I do recommend a 3rd helper, this is not a one man job. It’s very easy to install but very heavy. I really like that the hitch hides. Thank you etrailer

It’s been one year and I still love it. I use it a few times a week for a surf fishing cart and was hesitant to keep all my gear in the cart for the drive. However, after I installed a folding tray on it and loaded it up with a couple hundred pounds of trash I decided to just leave my fishing gear in the cart. It was easy to install because I used a rolling jack as my second set of hands. Everything lined up and the rear foot release control still works fine. I will warn you about one thing. It is a shin killing machine. I’ve busted my shin on the darn thing a dozen more times.

One year later and the hitch is still strong and rust free. I really put it to the test this summer moving things like a snowblower. I also used a four foot hitch extension and hauled a bunch of lumber with no problem. AND! It does NOT affect the hatch lid kick sensor. Very very happy with it!
Installed just over a year paint and finish has held up well fit was very good. Very happy with this after market hitch. I was able to install without cutting away the whole underbody panel, I feel with a small adjustment from manufacture you would be able to install without cutting away the larg section of under panel as they show in video otherwise I would have given it 5 stars. Still I would recommend this hitch for the 2021 Highlander
Customer service was great. Installation video was great. Delivery time was great. I, like others who bought this hitch, had the issue where one of the six holes did not line up. I was provided with instructions on various ways to try lining up the hole. My complaint is that this was due to what e-trailer described as shipping damage. This is an issue the consumer should not have to deal with. I am sure that etrailer would rather not have these issues as well. Simply adding a piece of angle iron between the last attaching point from each side would keep these “ears” as they called them from getting bent. This would turn a difficult unintended consequence into a very straightforward easy installation.
Fits perfectly in threaded holes already in frame provided by Toyota. Snugs exactly under bumper and looks great. Easy install I would recommend putting an extra plastic connector to hold passenger side rear cover underneath since the removal of the metal bracket leaves the cover loose. I did this easily. But your directions should recommend it at least as an option and include one plastic connector - not necessary but makes the cover not wiggle. I've included a photo where I put two plastic connectors in, but need only one. This photo I included is the cover on passenger side underneath showing the two extra connectors (you do need to drill the holes) also that is the Hitch bolt nearest the rear.

Perfect. Solid and strong. Hitch has been just right for my 3-ball mount. Wiring also from etrailer working great. Remember the wiring was simple since Toyota has a connector under the 2023 Highlander dirver side rear trim panel. Just pop the trim away not off and connect the connector first part. The scond part of the 2nd connector harness goes under the rear bumper also to a Toyota pre-installed connector under the rear bumper.
I personally tried to install this railer Hitch Receiver, and I failed to do so because this frame was not welded in size, I could not tighten one bolt because one side was narrow by 1 centimeter, just the side where the plate was screwed to maintain the right protection plastic and I had to go to The guys at the body shop station, they had a tool that allowed you to bend the frame and screw the last bolt into the frame to the body, so you should have followed the correct dimensions.
Fits and looks great. I did have to grind one hole about a paper thickness bigger as the bolts didn’t exactly line up. Maybe just a slight bend on the hitch. I tried for hours different ways and finally just ground one hole on the drivers side ever so slightly… fit great. Should have done that first. But very pleased.

It’s been a year, and my hitch has been performing great when needed
I was able to install the hitch by myself which took a fair amount more time than if I had help. All the hardware aligned with the frame mounting sights. I did spend a bit of time cutting out just the minimal amount of plastic on the drivers side underbody panel rather than the areas shown in the instructions. I was unable to get the facia exhaust air deflector over the hitch. Perhaps this would have been possible if I had help during the installation.
I had purchased a new Toyota Highlander last year for which I was looking for a reliable, durable AND inexpensive trailer hitch for this vehicle. It has been one year now since I own both and I am quite pleased with this product. I have used it lightly to tow trash cans on the back as well as some camping gear, bicycles, etc. on. This hitch was a great fit! It may be overkill for the light loads that I am carrying on it but it is well-worth the money.
The install was fairly easy, just required some trimming of the protective plastic on the underside but overall, it was pretty smooth.
Again, this is a great product for a great price and shipped in a reasonable amount of time! You will not be disappointed.

Still keeping up to its expectations. I am still glad that I went with this purchase. Additionally, I recently saw a vehicle that is similar to mine, except that it had the receiver within the bumper didnt look too attractive. Having this hitch below the bumper gives it a more sleek look.

After the first year no concerns.. we regularly use it for a 4-bike rack, and have also pulled a trailer.. haven’t asked it for anything heavy duty. Note - installation is on 2024 Highlander hybrid.
Been an etrailer customer for many years. This hitch unit is well made and heavy duty. It was very easy to install - took less than 1 hour doing it by myself using ramps and a floor jack. The unit fit perfectly to the Toyota body structure. A minor trimming modification was needed to the plastic drivers side underbody panel. Very satisfied with hitch assembly and the easy installation.

perfect installation, and I just towed a trailer and the trailer stayed with me the whole time. Which I assume means the hitch performed as intended ;-) Would buy again (for a different vehicle)!
My new hitch is working well and looks great! I have the Highlander XSE sport model with the dual exhaust pipe tip which necessitated unhooking the exhaust hanger rubber from the pipe in order to get the hitch up in place, but otherwise it went well. I did it by myself on my back in the garage in a couple of hours.
Impressed by the quality of these products, the easy install and the quick shipping. I was expecting this whole process to be complicated but etrailer made it easy. Thank you much!

Still working great to hold our e-bike rack. It was a very easy install and is a string hitch.
The tow hitch is well made and sturdy. The description provided by etrailer is not completely accurate. That is, the hands free tail gate function no longer works after the installation. A quality tow hitch is more important but I did buy this particular model in hope that the kick functionality would be maintained.

I was disappointed in the way I had to zip tie the wiring harness to the hitch. no docking station for wiring
Great price, great quality, super easy to install. Having an extra pair of hands helps in the process but super straightforward. Centering the receiver is a bit of a bear - had to have someone let me know which way to tap it with a rubber mallet and then quickly tighten bolts while not letting it move back off center. The matte black finish takes a beating and shows little wear after a year of nearly daily use.
A year after my installation I am quite happy with my etrailer hitch receiver. I was especially pleased with the installation. It is very well built, so that makes it pretty heavy. I wasn't sure I could get it mounted by myself. But by throwing together some supports with some old 2X4's and the car jack, I managed it quite well without putting my vehicle on a lift. Every hole matched perfectly and I know it will be there forever. My primary use is to support a bicycle rack. But if I should need to use a trailer, though, I am confident it will do just fine.
This is my fourth purchase from etrailer, two hitches and two bike racks, all have been a positive experience. There is some trimming that needs to be done like the instructions say. I was able to trim a bit less than what was shown. I recommend two people to install. All the holes aligned perfectly. I highly recommend.
Excellent hitch, service, and instructional videos. I ordered from Amy who was super helpful on a Thursday and received the hitch on Saturday. Wow. Fairly easy install.

Very nice product and great installation videos. Installation took less than an hour and looks great. I would suggest getting some of the push-type retainer clips- easier to use new ones than reusing the old.
Just installed today on a 2024 Highlander. Everything installed smoothly. I am very pleased with the design and overall appearance. I use it primarily to haul my bike to a local bike trail.
Just one item you might consider looking into. The diagram of the plastic box that came with the screws indicating the trimming to fit around the installed hitch looked like a mirror image of the actual box when I held the actual box it in my hand. Where to cut was clear when I looked at the youtube video so no big issues. Anyways and excellent product. I will definitely recommend to others.
