Quiet, Secure Ride

B&W Companion OEM Ram Jaw

The 1" thick jaw on the Companion OEM is precision machined to provide a tight, sturdy connection. And unlike slide-bar models, the rounded 2-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

B&W Companion OEM Ram Bushings

In addition to the sturdy jaw, the Companion has durable polyurethane bushings built in to provide a smoother, more comfortable towing experience. These bushings sit on top of the pivot arms that support the fifth-wheel head. Because the head is resting on a padded area, it is able to pivot without clanking. The ability of the head to pivot - both front to back and side to side - along with the trailer also helps to limit the chucking that may occur with a more static hitch.

Non-Binding Latch Handle

The dual jaw on the Companion OEM is operated by a simple-to-use cam-action handle. This handle allows you to quickly and easily release the jaws on the hitch, even if you are on uneven terrain. If any binding does occur between your truck and trailer, the jaws may remain closed after you move the handle to the open position. But because the handle is unlatched, there is nothing keeping the jaws closed except for the binding pressure. Therefore, simply driving your truck forward will be enough to force the jaws to open.

The cam-action handle is held in the closed position with the included pin and clip. For extra security, you can replace the pin with a sturdy padlock. The shackle on the lock you choose should have a diameter of 5/16", height of 3", and a width of 2-1/4".

Installation of the B&W Companion OEM

To install the Companion OEM, first set up the Companion's pivot arms. The arms are what allow the hitch to be adjusted front to back as well as up and down for optimal positioning. As a result, this hitch can accommodate the height of your trailer and also help to give you the cab clearance needed to execute turns while towing.

To adjust either the height of the hitch or the fore/aft positioning, just attach the hitch's pivot arms in the desired location on the base.

B&W Companion OEM Ram Feet

Then, when the hitch head is fully assembled, simply place the hitch in the bed of your truck, lining the base up with the receiver sockets in the bed. Rotate all 4 handles on the hitch base out so that the built-in puck receivers are in the correct position to install in the sockets. Once the base is lined up, fold the handles in until they are in the locked position and secure them with the included pins.

The hitch head installs on top of the pivot arms. When you have the head in position, simply secure it to the arms with the included pins.

  • Adapting B&W Patriot 5TH Wheel Hitch For GM Factory Puck System On a 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD
I do have a way you can use your B&W Patriot 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # BWRVK3255 on your 2023 GMC Sierra 3500HD with the factory puck/prep in bed hitch system. The Patriot Head # BWRVC3200 is only compatible with the Patriot line and not the Companion. The Adapter Rails # C88KR will mount to the 4 outer mounting points in your bed and provide you with the mounts for your Patriot 5th wheel hitch. Do note this will raise the hitch 2-1/2" so you may need to lower your hitch head height to...

  • Does 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 Short Bed Need Slider Hitch to Tow 2016 Solitude 321RL
I checked out your 2016 Solitude 321RL and since it has a tapered nose and an extended pin box you wouldn't need a slider hitch installed in the bed of your 2020 GMC Sierra 3500. You could use the B and W Companion Fixed Hitch for GM rail kit part # BWRVK3715 and you'd have the best fifth wheel hitch available for your truck as it's very easy to use, reliable, and also made in the USA.

  • Is The Placement OF GM's OEM Puck System Supposed To Sit Behind The Axle
Hey Jerry, GM moved the placement of their puck systems starting with 2020 models so you are correct that the pucks would have the hitch not sit directly over the axle. GM did the math and made sure that this placement wouldn't adversely affect your towing ability so it's totally fine as is. Moving the weight towards the front of the truck helps distribute the weight between the the front and rear axles, whereas being behind the rear axle and closer to the tailgate will place more weight...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2025 GMC Sierra 2500 Towing 2021 Jayco North Point 310RLTS
Hey Brent! I do recommend using a slider to make sure you have clearance on those turns. The only exception is if you have a rotating pin box. If you don't mind a manual slider where you have to get out and engage the lever the best option is the B&W Companion # BWRVK3775. If you want an auto-slide then I recommend the PullRite SuperGlide # PUL83RR. This will also require a capture plate so you will need to identify your pin box to choose the right one. If you can send me the serial number...

The Rota-Flex pin boxes will work just fine with the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3710 that you're referencing. To our knowledge the only standard 5th wheel hitches that the Rota-Flex isn't compatible with are the Curt E-Series or Q-Series 5th wheel hitches.

Yes, you can use a fixed fifth wheel hitch in the pucks of your short bed 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500. I checked with B&W, the manufacturers of the outstanding B&W Companion hitches, and found out the puck spacing of the Sliding B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3775 has a distance between its pucks of 22.3" wide and 13" deep, while the Fixed B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3710 also has 22.3" wide and 13" deep puck...

  • How To Determine Turning Clearance With B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch BWRVK3710
Hello Gilbert. Generally, we do recommend using a sliding 5th wheel hitch for any bed shorter than 8 feet. That said, not all short bed trucks require a slider. It is possible to use the B&W Companion Hitch # BWRVK3710 with the turning point pin box locked out. You can use the following formula to determine your clearance with the non sliding hitch: (A + B) - C = Clearance A = Distance from the fifth wheel jaw center to the truck cab B = Offset used (slider clearance or Sidewinder offset) C...

  • Fifth Wheel Hitch Recommendation 2025 Chevy Silverado Towing Alliance Valor
Hey Daniel, I actually would disagree with your sales guy on whether you need a sliding hitch or not. The short bed of your 2025 Chevy Silverado 3500 is actually one of the longest "short" beds made so that adds turning clearance. Your Alliance Valor 40v13 has a tapered nose and an extended pin box too which was designed for short bed turning clearance without needing a slider so a fixed hitch would work fine and would overall be a better solution. I'd go with the B and W Companion part...

  • Recommended B&W Companion Hitch for a 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 W/ Reese Under Bed Pucks
Hey Robert, the B&W Companion # BWRVK3710 and # BWRVK3700 are the exact same thing. The only difference is that # BWRVK3710 fits the 2020-2026 GMC Sierra 2500/3500s, while # BWRVK3700 fits the 2016-2019 GMC Sierra 2500/3500s. So since the Reese # RP30868 is the same thing as the Ford OEM pucks, you're actually going to want to use the B&W # BWRVK3305 instead.

  • B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch For 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 OEM Prep Package
We normally recommend short beds to use a slider like you mention for clearance issues. The B&W Companion Slider for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 with OEM prep package is not available yet. It is expected to be available September of 2019. If you have the 6-1/2 ft bed and the shape of the nose of your trailer allows for enough clearance to use a fixed hitch, you will not have any issues using the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch for Chevy/GMC Towing Prep Package part # BWRVK3710...

Hey Doug, you did you homework and I have good news! Yes you can use the fixed hitch version of the B and W Companion part # BWRVK3710 with your 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD because your trailer has a tapered nose which was designed basically for short bed turning clearance.

  • What Year Did The Chevrolet/GMC OEM Prep/Puck System Change For The Silverado/Sierra HD Trucks?
Yes, the puck system used on the 2016-2019 Chevy/GMC trucks is different than the pucks used on the 2020 and newer trucks. So you would need a 5th wheel like the B&W Companion # BWRVK3710 for your 2020 GMC Sierra 3500 with an 8' Bed. If you are looking at a Gooseneck Ball # BWGNXA2061 this will fit both the 2016-2019, and newer trucks since the size of the mounts didn't change. It was only their position and spread that changed due to frame changes.

  • Will My B&W Companion Hitch Work In My New Chevy 3500?
That completely depends on what style of Companion hitch you have. If your Companion hitch was made for the 2020-2024 GMC/Chevy puck system such as the # BWRVK3710, you can easily transfer it to the new Chevy 3500, provided the truck has the OEM fifth wheel puck system (not just the gooseneck). Hy Lance, The B&W Companion # BWRVK3710 weighs in at 152.34 lbs, but if you remove the head that will cut the weight about in half since the head weighs in at 70 lbs itself. An alternative solution that's lighter is the PullRite OEX Super 5th-Wheel Hitch # PUL36ZR. It's definitely recommended to use a sliding hitch with a short bed truck like your 2025 Chevy Silverado 2500. There's some math you'll want to do before you decide which hitch to go with. Galen, I'm actually not sure how you'd calculate that by using the base plate height and the truck bed. To find out the horizontal position of the pivot arms you are supposed to measure the distance between the center axle and the bumper, and the king pin to the body of the 5th wheel. If the difference is 16"- 24" then you can place the pivot arms in the "over axle" position. If it's less than 16", then you can place the arms behind the axle. Finally, if it's more than 24", then you can...
