Question:

I have a 2023 Grand Design Reflection 150 series 278 bh and am going to pull it with a 2024 gmc crew cab 4 x 4 standard bed. can I use your b and w standard non sliding fifth wheel hitch and use the curt turning point in the standard non pivoting position ?

Hello Gilbert. Generally, we do recommend using a sliding 5th wheel hitch for any bed shorter than 8 feet. That said, not all short bed trucks require a slider. It is possible to use the B&W Companion Hitch # BWRVK3710 with the turning point pin box locked out. You can use the following formula to determine your clearance with the non sliding hitch:

(A + B) - C = Clearance
A = Distance from the fifth wheel jaw center to the truck cab
B = Offset used (slider clearance or Sidewinder offset)
C = Width of the nose of the trailer divided by 2

If I use the turning point then yes there is not any problem making tuns. I think I will use the turning point locked out and see how far I can turn. I believe that with the puck system and the b& w non sliding hitch and uprights positioned aft of the axle I should have plenty of turning plus who in their right mind turns a truck and trailer 90 degrees. A little planning goes a long ways. Thanks for all your support

@GilbertG Yes you are definitely on the right track here. The best thing to do is set everything up and carefully see what your turning clearance is like. Adjusting the uprights on the companion hitch can help. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions going forward.
